Who is the best boys hockey player in the Patriot League? Local coaches weigh in

It's back by popular demand.

Fans of South Shore high school sports showed so much support for our Patriot League boys and girls basketball 'Coach Confidential' stories that reporter Eric McHugh ventured to the South Shore League with the exercise.

But many wondered, what about hockey fans? Fear not. We've got you covered.

We sent out a survey to the Patriot League's boys hockey coaches (hailing from Whitman-Hanson, Quincy, North Quincy, Hanover, Pembroke, Silver Lake, Marshfield, Duxbury, Scituate, Plymouth North and Plymouth South) to dig deeper on an array of topics and superlatives.

Here are the questions we asked, and the anonymous replies we received.

"Scituate has the best student section. Best home ice is Plymouth North and South due to smaller rink dimensions."

"Toughest / Best player is Cam McGettrick of Marshfield. He can do so many different things. He can pass, he can shoot, he defends well and plays hard in all three zones. Kid does it all."

"Toughest player is Kyle Ready, goalie from Pembroke, who has been lights-out."

"Kyle Ready, Pembroke - Excellent goalie. Gives his team the chance to win every night."

"James Sullivan from Scituate is a natural scorer!"

"Teddy Devoe, Marshfield - He has had a breakout season and is scoring in bunches."

"Luke Tropeano, Whitman-Hanson - He's always on the move. Has good skill and a good shot, and plays hard."

"Luke Tropeano (Whitman-Hanson) - Plays the game hard, plays over 30 minutes a game, plays all situations. I think he gets overlooked by many, but he is someone you need to be aware of at all times."

"Tom Perkins, Hanover goalie. I think he has had a great year."

"Logan Souza (Plymouth South)."

"Brandon Perry - Pembroke forward. He can absolutely fly, he can pass, and makes good decisions with the puck. I think Ready (Pembroke goalie) gets most of the credit and deserves every bit of it, but Perry helps out a ton on offense."

8. Which Patriot League team will make the best push for the state title?

"I think Pembroke in Div. 3 or Hanover in Div. 4. Pembroke has the goalie and you need to steal a game or two in the playoffs and Ready can do that for sure. Hanover battles every shift, blocking shots, playing smart hockey - I could see them going on a run."

"Scituate or Hanover- Both will have a high seed in their divisions and home ice first two rounds is big."

"Hanover will make a push for Div 4."

"Scituate has a very deep roster and can play any type of game."

9. Who involved with a Patriot League team doesn't get enough credit for their contributions?

"Scott Paine, Scituate athletic director. He is so good to all the Patriot League coaches and does a lot behind the scenes."

"Scott Paine, without a doubt, has been incredible for Patriot League boys ice hockey for several years now."
