Best Bets: Sounds of the season to fill the air at holiday concerts

The Warwick Valley Chorale 83rd annual Holiday concerts: The concerts will be presented at Grace Episcopal Church, 58 North St., Middletown on December 1 at 7 p.m.; the Goshen Christian Reformed Church, 2440 Route 17A, Goshen on December 8, at 7p.m.; and St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 75 Sanfordville Rd., Warwick on December 10, at 3p.m. The Goshen and Warwick concerts will also be livestreamed. Admission is free; donations will be gratefully accepted. Led by director Ron DeFesi and accompanied by Gail Johnson, this season’s repertoire will include a program of John Rutter’s Magnificat, as well as beloved seasonal favorites such as Winter Wonderland, Carol of the Bells, Hanerot Halalu, and many more. Junior Friends of the Goshen Public Library and Goshen Historical Society 2023 Children's Book Give Away: Dec. 2, lightly used children's books will be handed out at the Goshen Village Christmas Tree Lighting at 4:30 p.m. Donations of bools are needed, drop them off outside the front door of 216 North Church St. in Goshen, under the overhang. Any books not given away will be donated to the Friend’s Used Book Store in the Goshen Public Library.

Holiday Craft Fair: Dec. 2, Grahamsville United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 356 Main Street (Route 55) in Grahamsville, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., artists and craftsman will be selling their jewelry, ceramics, pottery, and much more. Woodbury Historical Society of Highland Mills Train Show: Dec. 3, Woodbury Senior Center, 16 Route 105, Highland Mills, noon-6 p.m., admission is $2 per person or $5 per family (children age 4 and under free). Holiday program about the history of Legacy Toys Trains. Show will feature four operating train tables accompanied by displays detailing the history of model toy trains from the early “wind-up” models on up to the more contemporary electric trains. Grace Community Evangelical Free Church 7th-annual Live Nativity: Dec. 9, snow/rain date Dec. 10, Grace Community Evangelical Free Church, 160 Seremma Court, Lake Katrine, 5-7 p.m. This free event will be a drive-thru, no-contact production that you can watch from the safety of your car. Guests will hear a radio narration in English or Spanish as they drive through almost a dozen sets telling the story of the birth of Christ. The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concert "Season of Light": Dec. 9, snow date Dec. 10, Aquinas Hall on the Mount Saint Mary College campus, Newburgh, 4 p.m., concert will begin with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s sumptuous fantasy on well-known melodies, then Corelli’s touching Christmas Eve serenade from 1690, and then on to Pachelbel’s beloved Canon, an assortment of famous Christmas choral music, as well as the addition of a new Hanukkah song "Eight Days of Light," and finally a troop of 10 professional singers who will perform some of the most wonderful vocal music of the season.
