Joe Burrow is close to 100 percent, but the Bengals are playing it safe with their quarterback of the future.

Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor announced Monday that Burrow will miss Friday’s preseason game at Washington. The Bengals have not ruled Burrow out for their preseason finale versus the Dolphins on August 29th.

The last time Cincinnati saw Washington, in Week 11 of last season, Burrow tore his ACL and MCL. Burrow was hit awkwardly while throwing a pass in the second half.

Taylor said last Thursday that he was “not ready to rule anything out for future games” with Burrow, raising the possibility that the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner could appear in the preseason.

While the Bengals aren’t going to rush Burrow back for a preseason game, a series or two against Miami could provide confidence heading into Week 1 (versus Minnesota on September 12th).

Regardless, the former LSU Tiger should be under center for the start of the regular season.
