Bench trial for Stroudsburg man charged in fatal 2021 shooting starts Wednesday

A bench trial for a man accused of killing a New Jersey teen in Middle Smithfield Township is set to start Wednesday.

The now-22-year-old Tyrone Parson, of Stroudsburg, is accused of fatally shooting 19-year-old Jaheem Keith Alston, of Paterson, New Jersey, in an alleged drug deal gone wrong in October 2021.

Police also allege that Kellie Nelson, of East Stroudsburg, now 21, was the getaway driver for Parson. Nelson’s next court date is currently set for June 28.

Parson is being represented by attorney Brian Perry, who is known for helping overturn the sexual assault conviction of comedian Bill Cosby on appeal in 2021.

According to the legal glossary of the United Judicial System of Pennsylvania, a bench trial is a “trial with no jury, in which the judge decides the facts.”

Judge Margherita Worthington will hear the case.

Neither the Monroe County DA's Office nor Perry, have returned requests for comments as of Tuesday morning.
