Beloved 'LIFE' Magazine Set to Return to Circulation

LIFE magazine is getting a revival thanks to model Karlie Kloss and her husband, Joshua Kushner, over 20 years after it went out of regular circulation.

The news was announced in a press release shared with Parade, with the couple's Bedford Media to manage the operations for print and digital distribution as part of an agreement with Dotdash Meredith.

Kloss commented on the news, saying, "We see LIFE as an uplifting and unifying voice in a chaotic media landscape. While Bedford is a new media company, we are deeply inspired by LIFE's iconic legacy and ability to connect diverse audiences with universal narratives of humanity."

There is no word yet on when to expect the new LIFE to launch, but many fans of the publication are already excited to see it come back to life.

In response to Kushner's social media post announcing the big news, one person called LIFE "the buried treasure in media" before congratulating the couple, as another reacted, "wait this rules, here's hoping it goes well and becomes something that can sustain itself."

Others are skeptical about the move for a few different reasons, including the decline of print media in recent years. A few also referenced Kloss and Kushner's recent venture with fashion magazine i-D, which Bedford Media purchased from Vice Media in late November.

There were allegedly some layoffs at i-D recently, as reported by fashion journalist Lauren Sherman, and editor-in-chief Alastair McKimm stepped down from the position, announcing the sad news on Instagram.

The announcement about LIFE didn't include many details about the company's plan for the publication, although it noted that Dotdash Meredith will retain the full rights to LIFE photography and content archives.

Originally launched in 1883, LIFE was initially focused on light entertainment. It then had a major redesign in 1936, thanks to Time publisher Henry Luce, leading to a stronger focus on photojournalism. The magazine marked many important events in history and culture before its last regular print issue was published in 2000.

LIFE continued with special editions and currently has a digital archive of past issues.
