A beloved high school junior died in a UTV crash, rattling her North Carolina community, news outlets reported.

Jessica Hollady was known as an outgoing 17-year-old cheerleader with dreams of becoming a dental hygienist. But her life was cut short when she got into a crash involving a side-by-side vehicle overnight June 3, family members told WFMY.

“I’m going to miss her smile and her little text messages and my little notes,” the girl’s mother, Sheri Haynes, told the TV station. “I have little notes all over my desk at work and at home. She would leave me a little sneaky note. ‘I love you mom, hope you have a great day at work.’”

First responders were called to a crash involving a “flipped” UTV just after midnight on June 4, according to WGHP.

The incident involved juveniles at a home in the Ramseur area, roughly 65 miles west of Raleigh, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office told McClatchy News and WXII. The teenager killed in the crash was identified in news reports as Hollady, a student at nearby Eastern Randolph High School.

“She was dearly loved by her classmates and the staff members at Eastern Randolph High School as well as many other people throughout our community,” Stephen Gainey, superintendent of the Randolph County School System, told WGHP in a statement. “It is with extremely heavy hearts that the members of the Randolph County Board of Education and I extend our condolences to Jessica Hollady’s family as well as the students, staff members, and community members of Eastern Randolph High School.”

The district, which didn’t immediately respond to McClatchy News’ requests for comment on June 6, told news outlets it would offer additional counseling on the high school campus.
