A new dermatologist has opened a clinic in Bellingham and is offering low appointment wait times, with new patients receiving care as soon as the same day they request an appointment.

Dr. Brian S. Hoyt opened Bayside Dermatology on Jan. 5. Hoyt grew up in Lynden before earning a degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University. Hoyt attended the University of Texas Medical School and did his dermatology residency and dermatopathology fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health in New Hampshire. He practiced dermatology in Idaho for three years before returning to Whatcom County.

“We can get patients in within days,” Hoyt wrote in an email to The Bellingham Herald, adding that many patients wait three to six months for a dermatology appointment.

“The reason we can get patients in quickly is because we are a new clinic. Many dermatologists have full patient panels with routine skin cancer screenings and treatment. For now, patients can call and get in within the same week. We don’t require a referral from their doctor, though some insurance plans do require a referral in order to authorize a visit,” Hoyt wrote.

The clinic serves those needing medical and surgical dermatology services and treatment of skin diseases. Dr. Hoyt is also board-certified in dermatopathology, the microscopic evaluation of skin biopsies.

Bayside Dermatology is in-network for many insurances, including AARP Medicare Advantage, Aetna, Asuris Northwest Health, Cigna, Global, Healthcare Management Administrators, LifeWise, Heritage, Humana, Medicare, Meritain, Optum, Premera Blue Cross, Regence BlueShield, Regence MedAdvantage PPO, Regence BlueAdvantage HMO and United Healthcare.

Bayside Dermatology does not accept Medicaid, Molina or Apple Health.

Appointments can be made online or by calling 360-685-7171. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and is at 3614 Meridian St.
