Your Bellingham Black Friday Guide: When stores will be open, where to find deep discounts
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Black Friday’s early morning deals and discounts are close behind.
The popular discount shopping day got its name in the 1950s as police in Philadelphia described used the term “Black Friday” to describe the Friday after Thanksgiving as “hordes of suburban shoppers and tourists flooded into the city” before an annual Army-Navy football game, causing police officers to work extra hours to maintain crowds and shoplifters, according to History.com.
Over 166 million people are planning to shop for deals from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday this year according to the National Retail Federation, a retail trade association. Compared to 2021, about 8 million more shoppers will be looking for the best deals this year.

▪ A few deals: Smart TVs starting at $79.99, $400 grills and other discounts on electronics.

▪ A few deals: 50% off Champion activewear, 40% off Disney toys and clothing and up to 75% off fine jewelry.

▪ A few deals: up to 65% off coats, up to 60% off mattresses and 50% off shoes and boots.
