Belen volleyball wins Jungle Queen event. Cypress Bay takes Silver title. Plus more results

The Belen Jesuit boys’ volleyball team won the Gold Bracket Championship of the Jungle Queen Tournament at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale.

The Wolverines went 5-0 in the two-day tournament. In the finals, they came from behind to defeat Southwest 22-25, 25-19, 15-12.

In the semifinals, Belen Jesuit also came from behind to beat host Cardinal Gibbons 17-25, 25-21, 15-8.

Prio, Belen Jesuit defeated Sunset 25-12, 25-12; Cypress Bay 19-25, 25-23, 17-15; and Park Vista-Lake Worth 25-23, 26-24.

Top Belen Jesuit performers for the tournament: Robert Henao 119 assists, 7 kills, 4 aces, 7 blocks; Marcelo Hernandez 36 kills, 14 blocks, 5 digs; Joseph Gonzalez 19 kills, 18 digs, 4 blocks, 4 aces; Morrison Hadad 22 kills, 4 blocks, 5digs.

The Wolveirnes are 7-0.

Cypress Bay won the Silver Bracket title, beating defending state champ Winter Park in the finals.

The Lightning went 4-1 in the tournament, also defeating Park Vista-Lake Worth, Miami Sunset and Jupiter. Their lone loss was to Belen Jesuit.

Softball

Winning pitcher Leah Maduro went the distance, striking out 12 and walking one as Ransom Everglades softball defeated Pine Crest 5-3.

Offensively Maduro helped her cause, going 1 for 3 with a triple, two walks and two runs. Freshman Ella Crowley was 3 for 5, and Bella Miki went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Kat Herrera and Ruby Brooks each had an RBI.

The Raiders improved to 3-2.

Keys Gate notched its first win of the season with winning pitcher Madeline Webb going 3 for 3 including a grand slam home run, a walk, a run and five RBI.
