Bel-Air has revealed the release date for its third season, with fans not having too long to wait for new episodes.

The Peacock series serves as a reimagining of the classic 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, following Will Smith's (Jabari Banks) journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the affluent Los Angeles neighbourhood of Bel Air, albeit with a more serious tone than the original sitcom.

Following two successful seasons, the show was greenlit for further episodes, and Deadline has reported that the new season will premiere on August 15, with the first three episodes all airing on the same night.

"School's out for the summer, and Will is doing Bel-Air his way," reads the synopsis for season three. "Being a part of the Banks family has given him a new perspective - it isn't just about wealth, it means that Will now has options to lean into other things that excite him and has the privilege to dream bigger.

"As Will makes an exciting pivot, he finds a partner in Carlton (Olly Sholotan), who desperately wants to leave his life of addiction behind and rebuild his damaged reputation. While the dynamic duo has a lot of exciting wins, working together also reveals fundamental differences in their backgrounds and worldviews. Can a partnership of such extremes work?

The synopsis also reveals that Viv (Cassandra Freeman) and Phil (Adrian Holmes) will face "pressure at work and home" that will challenge their relationship, while Hilary's (Coco Jones) romance with LaMarcus (Justin Cornwell) will "face some shocking hurdles".

Elsewhere, "Ashley’s (Akira Akbar) views on romance will start to blossom as she comes of age the summer before she starts high school, and Geoffrey's (Jimmy Akingbola) London past will come a little too close to home."

The season has also been teased by showrunner Carla Banks Waddles, who said: "[It's] summer school with no uniforms, just summer sizzle. [It will] explore questions like, how do you prove yourself in a world that views you in limited ways? How do you reach beyond your comfort zone to create new opportunities for yourself? How does a family rebuild broken trust?"

Bel-Air season three premieres on Peacock on August 15.
