Behind the Scenes of Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg's Sweet, Stylish “People StyleWatch” Shoot

Leisurely, glam mornings are a rarity for the parents of twin toddlers, so they made the most of it — get all the details of their cool, casual looks

Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg were each style stars in their own right before they became a couple — but since getting married, they amplify each other's best instincts. In their interview for People StyleWatch, Greenberg described Chung's style as "cutting edge, but always classic" and "effortless," while Chung said her husband has "really great style" that somehow makes him look "forever 25."

That is, of course, when they have the time to get dressed up. As parents to twin toddlers, they might spend more time trying to talk their kids out of the cartoon shirts and into the toddler Nikes bought by Greenberg (who notes, "there is no toddler fashion") than being camera-ready on any given Saturday.

So on this particular Saturday morning, the couple enjoyed the chance to get glam and spend some time together. ("It's a true pleasure being here for six hours and not changing any diapers," Greenberg joked. "It's a vacation," Chung added.) Go behind the scenes of their shoot and get details on their looks straight from the stylists.

The Clothes

"Dressing a couple for a photoshoot is a little different than it might be in real life. You have to make sure that the looks aren't too matchy matchy, but they make sense together," stylist Heidi Meek tells PEOPLE. "Since Jamie and Bryan look so adorable together and move well together, the clothes also needed to be harmonious. I chose looks that were complementary but still showed their individuality."

Meek says the two were very fun and easy to work with (particularly because "they looked good in anything they tried on!") and she was happy to take their feedback into account when it came to the looks "they gravitated towards." Meek had pulled lots of blue tones with white and floral mixed in, and then styled them to reflect the couple's personal style a bit more, making them look "fashion-forward but still casual and laid-back."

Her personal favorites at the end of the day were the striped Altuzarra dress Chung wore and Bryan's Missoni top and pants, but the cute couple made it hard to pick a favorite.

"Because of how photogenic they both are I could have pulled so many more looks," she said. "But I know that Jamie and Bryan have twins at home, so we had a fun day and focused on just those two so they could rush home to their babies!"

The Glam

Amaran Grewal was on hand to style Chung's "saltwater island hair" and Greenberg's just-mussed-enough do, and gave StyleWatch the scoop on how to achieve them both.

Grewal says the style he gave Chung is one of the star's perennial favorites, achieved by using a flatiron on dry hair. "Have you ever flat ironed your hair and you accidentally dent it by mistake, and you're like, 'Oh no, this is dented, now I can see the iron mark?' So I'm doing that," he explained. "I'm feeding the hair through the iron with one hand, and then the hand with the iron is kind of making an S shape, and I'm kind of clamping and bending the hair where I want."

To add even more texture, he loves Wella's "Sugar Lift," which he sprays on the "dented" hair and then musses it to his desired texture. "I'll literally spray this one product from about 6 inches away in sections from the bottom up again, and then essentially run my fingers through it really messy, and then just let it dry," he says. "And then once it's 100% dry, because it's quite sticky, I'll go through, and then ... You know when you rub your hands together because you're cold? Knead it like that."

For Bryan, he says, he wanted to keep the look "a little bit more casual," allowing the actor's hair to dry naturally with Phytovolume generously sprayed in. "Then I'll take my blow dryer to work the product in, rough drying it in all directions and making it look kind of as big as possible to get that volume," he says, finishing with a "dime-sized" amount of Kevin Murphy's "Night Rider" wax for texture and hold. "I'll just work that through the hair and kind of mess it up accordingly, and just keep playing with it."

Grewal tweaked the mussed style to a more polished look as the shoot evolved. To achieve the on-trend look, start with a great base cut, he advises. "Get a good haircut that's versatile."

Freddy Castro did Chung's makeup to reflect "the fresh essence of spring" as well as "the latest makeup trends." He utilized a subtle, smudged dark brown eyeliner (achieved by diffusing Urban Decay's 24/7 liquid liner with some powder shadow) plus a "flawless nude lip." To recreate the latter, use Skkn Lip Liner No. 5 blended with a bit Ortega's Agave Glow Color Stick in "Para Siempre" in the center of the lip, topped with the brand's Blu Nectar lip oil on top for shine. Rare Beauty's Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush in the Happy and Joy shades finished off her radiant flush.

"The entire set was a memorable experience," he tells StyleWatch. "Collaborating with Jamie and Bryan to create these looks was incredibly fulfilling."

Finally, nail artist Sheila Monaus created a "fun, versatile" manicure she called a "frosted French" for "a natural look with a fun shimmery twist."

Want to try it yourself? "Start with clean nails and apply favorite nail base; mine is ORLY's rubberized base coat," she says. "I applied two light coats of OPI's Samoan Sand. Let dry, then take the bottle of OPI's Snow Holding Back, wipe one side of the brush against the side of the inside bottle (so there’s not too much extra liquid), take the polish and apply a small amount to the edge of the nail tip and drag in the shape of half moon. Repeat if necessary."
