Bedford's girls tennis team slips past Gibraltar Carlson with depth
TEMPERANCE – Bedford’s depth made the difference Wednesday in a 5-3 victory over Gibraltar Carlson.
Carlson won the first two singles flights with Addyson Brake and Erin Riley and ruled No. 1 doubles with Delaney Boller and Brooklyn Roldan, but Bedford won all the other matches including two three-setters and three where the final set was decided by a tiebreaker.
“Very close match,” Carlson coach Brian Herman said.
Bad breaks: Airport's Ortega battles through injury-filled year
Bedford got singles wins from Maddie Armstrong and Grace Deiners and ruled the last three doubles matches with Audrey and Dorothy Dillon, Paige Anderson and Alivia Brown and Mary Lietaert and Megan Kopaniasz.
It was the first loss of the season for Carlson (5-1-1).
PREP BASEBALL
Millican no-hits Dundee
IDA – Jaxon Millican got Ida started right with a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts in the first game and Ida went on to sweep Dundee 6-0 and 4-1 Wednesday.
“Jaxon Millican was magnificent,” Ida coach Jimmy McMonagle said.
AJ Schrader had the only hit and drove in two runs for Ida in the second game. Owen Snyder, Noah Adkins and Cam Riggs were outstanding on the mound.
“We did all the little things to get the win in this game,” McMonagle said of his 6-6 team. “Owen Snyder got a big two-strike squeeze down.”
Dundee (7-4) got strong pitching from Cam Fairchild, Ryan Zanger, Cooper Buhl and Ethan Layton.
Bedford bats boom
TEMPERANCE – Jace Boomer went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs to help Bedford outslug Monroe 16-6 Wednesday.
Issac Garrow and Nolan Laskey also notched three hits apiece and Aiden Schoch and Ty Zapada contributed two each.
Logan Loveland collected four hits, Carson Liedel had two and Brady Welch drove in three runs.
Huron starts fast
GROSSE ILE – New Boston Huron scored five times in the first inning and never looked back in a 13-0 rout of Grosse Ile Wednesday.
Connor Grant went 3-for-3 to lead the offense. Kyle Kantola added two hits and Austin Dell drove in two runs to support winning pitcher Caiden Siggett.
Jefferson’s Betts shines
MILAN – Jaxin Betts threw a strong game and helped himself with a triple as Jefferson thumped Milan 11-3 Wednesday.
“He commanded the zone,” Jefferson coach Tyler Bondy said of Betts, who struck out seven in six innings.
Joseph Neckel led the offense with three hits and three RBI. Keegan Stefko, Luke Beaudrie and Bret Gennoe each had a pair of hits and Stefko drove in three runs for the 4-7 Bears.
Whiteford dominant
OTTAWA LAKE – Tre Eitniear and Nate Stevens rang up three hits each as Whiteford overpowered Morenci 16-0 and 15-0 in a pair of three-inning, mercy-rule games Wednesday.
Logan Keane and Stevens picked up pitching wins for the Bobcats, who are 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the Tri-County Conference.
Airport spreads offense
FLAT ROCK – All nine starters had at least one hit as Airport rolled to a 13-2 win over Flat Rock Wednesday.
Seth Jones went 3-for-3, Jayden Harper-Lewis added two hits, winning pitcher Sean Langton drove in three runs and Jonathan Daniels went 1-for-1, walked for times and scored four runs.
“Hats off to Airport,” Flat Rock coach Josh Godfrey said. “They play great defense and hit the baseball. Real good baseball team.”
Anthony Hernandez logged two hits for Flat Rock.
Mason has 12-run inning
ADRIAN – A 12-run fifth inning helped power Erie Mason to a 9-2, 14-7, sweep of Lenawee Christian Wednesday.
Anderson Moore went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs in the first game. Collin Brooks, Lucas Hutson and Carson Ellerbrock logged two hits each in the nightcap with Hutson driving in three runs and Cole Kreger and Brody Koehl two each.
SMCC’s Runyon homers
RIVERVIEW – Brennon Runyon home run in the seventh inning plated St. Mary Catholic Central’s only run in a 4-1 loss to Riverview Wednesday.
“Riverview pitched a great game and we did not put enough pressure on them defensively,” SMCC coach Jared Janssen said.
PREP SOFTBALL
Drummond goes deep
FLAT ROCK – RaeAnn Drummond blasted a trio over home runs to power Airport’s 16-5 win over Flat Rock Wednesday.
Drummond finished 4-for-4 and was the winning pitcher for the 12-2 Jets.
Adding to the 18-hit attack were Raschel Weaver with three and Peyton Zajac, Jillian Baker, Alayna McDaniel and Hailey Boitnott two each. Zajac also homered and Boitnott made a great catch in leftfield.
Jackson leads Huron
GROSSE ILE – Marissa Jackson went 4-for-5 to spearhead New Boston Huron’s 8-1 win over Grosse Ile Wednesday.
Maria Robbins, Erin Newman and winning pitcher Rylie Greggo added two hits each.
Big day for SMCC’s Gee
RIVERVIEW – Camryn Gee went 4-for-4 with three doubles and six RBI to lead St. Mary Catholic Central to a 13-2 mercy of Riverview Wednesday.
“The girls played great today on both sides of the ball,” SMCC coach Dani Emery said. “We have been working on cleaning up defense and it is showing.”
Hannah Williams went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs, Abby Lechy added two hits and winning pitcher Braelyn Runyon drew a trio of walks.
Milan tames Bears
MILAN – Leila Daniels homered, doubled and singled during Milan’s 10-0 win over Jefferson Wednesday.
Georgia Linzell doubled, tripled and scored three times. Tierra Ronayne delivered three RBI.
Julia Perry had two of Jefferson’s four hits off Mariah Stines.
No-hitter for Monroe
JACKSON – Avery Collett and Alaina Aulph combined on a no-hitter for Monroe in a 16-0 rout of Jackson Wednesday.
Aulph went 2-for-2 with three RBI while Alyssa Sroka and Ava Profitt each drove in two runs for the 5-7 Trojans.
Whiteford pitchers excel
OTTAWA LAKE – Unity Nelson and Megan Butz threw a no-hitter in the first game then Karlei Conard and Ava Stevens did the same in the second game as Whiteford swept Morenci in a pair of 15-0, mercy-rule wins Wednesday.
Jillian Webb and Avy Wood both had four hits on the day for the 6-2 Bobcats.

Thomas leads Rams
FLAT ROCK – Isabella Thomas netted a hat trick and Megan Woelkers scored twice for Flat Rock in a 9-1 win over St. Mary Catholic Central Wednesday.
Courtney Kraszewski, Claire Carleman, Sophia Ellison and Carlee Balogh had the other Flat Rock goals.
“The girls really pressured well on corner kicks resulting in two goals,” said Flat Rock coach Craig Stanczyk. “Solid defensive play from the back four.”
Nora Kinsey scored and Jordan Classic played well for 1-9-1 SMCC.
Milan tops Airport
CARLETON – Milan overcame a strong effort by Airport for a 5-2 win Wednesday.
Emma Budd scored two goals and Aubree Higgins, Maya Faro and Malea Wourman one each for Milan.
Payton Toth logged a goal and an assist on a score by Rylee Johnson for Airport, which got 15 saves from Madilynn Daniels.
Huron stays perfect
NEW BOSTON – Rylie Cassette, Addison Bozynski, Kendyl Sikorski and Madison Wilson netted two goals as New Boston Huron remained undefeated with an 11-0 win over Jefferson-Erie Mason Wednesday.
Other goals came from Maggie Mentzer, Melissa Mentzer and Shay Carpenter. Ava Plackowski logged two assists.
TRACK AND FIELD
Huron holds off Bears
NEW BOSTON – Vit Ulman, Kyle Biller, Lucas Kuhn and Hunter Mihal won the 1,600 relay to help New Boston Huron’s boys hold off Jefferson 67-61 Wednesday.
Mihal also won the 100, 200 and 400 meters, Kuhn took the 800 and 1,600 and Luke Dulecki was first in the 3,200.
Ben Merkel (high jump, long jump), Mike Armetta (hurdles) and Tyler Swinkey (throws) were double winners for Jefferson, which got personal bests from Orion Galloway, Josh Hargreaves, Nolan West, and Luke Masserant.
Jefferson’s girls won 88-39 behind double winners Jenna Pilachowski (800, 1,600) and Lyla Tahmouch (throws). Also taking firsts were Alyssa Masserant (400), Riley Peer (3,200). Anna Boggs (high hurdles), Mia Schroeder (low hurdles), Lindsay Masserant (high jump) and Katie Powell (long jump).
Huron wins came from Olivia Pryor (100) and Savanna Rupnow (200)

Mules pull out two
TECUMSEH – Spencer Eighmey and Boston Gallup both parred their last hole Tuesday to provide the winning margin as Bedford shot 173 to top Tecumseh (174) and Jackson (177).
Carter Klawonn was the match medalist with 41 and Camden Price shot 43, Eighmey 44 and Gallup 45.

Sparks hurls no-hitter
TEMPERANCE – A no-hitter by Landon Sparks in the first game highlighted Bedford’s 1-0, 10-2 sweep of Ida’s junior varsity Wednesday.
