Bedford woman identified in fatal Monday morning crash on Ghent Road

The 28-year-old woman who died in a single-car crash Monday morning on Ghent Road has been identified as Donita Smith, of Bedford, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

Smith was driving southbound in her Chevrolet Equinox around 6:25 a.m. when she lost control of the vehicle around a curve and smashed into a concrete sign. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Before Smith was identified, the Beacon Journal was previously told by the Akron Police Department that the crash victim was from Akron, which was incorrect.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
