Bedford fire damages 3 homes, displaces 13 residents, officials say

A two-alarm fire in Bedford early Tuesday morning displaced 13 people and damaged three homes, fire officials said.

According to a news release from the Bedford Fire Department, firefighters responded to a call about a carport fire on Schumac Lane around 4:15 a.m. When they arrived they found four vehicles on fire in the detached carport and flames spreading to two homes in front. Another home behind the carport on Donna Lane was also affected.

Information posted to the Bedford Fire Department Facebook page confirmed that two of the affected homes were in the 1600 block of Schumac Lane.

Joey Lankford, spokesperson for the Bedford Fire Department, told the Star-Telegram in a phone interview that two of the homes received significant damage and the other one minor damage. The four vehicles were a total loss.

The fire was brought under control in just under one hour, officials said in the press release, and no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting the families who were displaced.

The fire also damaged transformers and power lines in the area, and Oncor was working to restore power. It’s not clear how many homes were without power or how long the power outage lasted.

Fire departments from Hurst, Euless, Colleyville, North Richland Hills, Watauga and Haltom City also responded, according to the release.
