Beaver County Humane Society holding spring adoption event this week

CENTER TWP. ― Community members looking to add new furry friends to their families are encouraged to adopt from the Beaver County Humane Society this week.

Officials for the BCHS have announced that adoptions at the shelter will be 50% off for all animals that are 6 months or older from Tuesday to Saturday. The spring adoption event was organized, in part, due to a sharp uptick in bigger dogs entering the shelter, many coming to the facility as strays.

“BCHS is here to care for our communities’ homeless pets and connect them with loving families,” said Alison Yazer, executive director at BCHS. “We hope that this adoption event will eliminate some of the hurdles to pet adoption and ensure our animals find the family meant for them.”

According to reports from the local humane society, staff members have helped take in around 40 stray dogs over the past six weeks. As the new animals come in faster than they are adopted, the shelter is once again reaching the capacity in its kennels and putting a strain on the available resources for animals in need.

“We genuinely appreciate our many generous donors who donate food, toys, and other necessities, and also our volunteers who dedicate much of their time to supporting our mission,” Yazer said. “It means a lot to us and our animals, especially as our days get busier.”

Local community members are encouraged to consider adoption, with available pets currently listed on the humane society's website. Those interested in temporarily fostering dogs or other animals can also visit the Beaver County Humane Society's website to apply or call 724-775-5801, ext. 117, to learn more about the program.
