The Bear season two spoilers follow.

The Bear star Ayo Edebiri has weighed in on fan hopes for a Sydney and Carmy show romance, calling them "frustrating".

The actress plays chef Sydney Adamu to Jeremy Allen White's Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto in the hit FX series.

In season two, which was recently released in the UK, viewers saw Sydney and Carmy grow even closer as they worked together to transform Carmy's late brother's Chicago-based sandwich shop into a fine dining restaurant.

Some fans have made it clear online that they'd like to see Sydney and Carmy's current friendship turn romantic in a (still unconfirmed) third season, but Edebiri believes those shipping the two characters are likely to be disappointed.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Edebiri explained that while grateful for the overwhelming support and response to the show, she finds fan theories "frustrating" and something that won't influence The Bear going forward.

"It’s really not our thought process when we’re making the show, and I understand it can be part of a show’s culture — but I don’t think they’re going to get what they want," she said.

Discussing the relationship between Sydney and Carmy, Edebiri added: "I think it’s incredibly cool to have this dynamic onscreen that isn’t romantic, but that feels charged and sexy."

The second season introduced a love interest for chef Carmy in the form of old friend and childhood crush Claire (played by Molly Gordon).

The two reconnected after bumping into each other at a convenience store late one night.

A few episodes in and Carmy was calling Claire his "girlfriend", but hopes were dashed in the season 2 finale when the chef seemed to call time on their relationship (while trapped inside the kitchen's walk-in fridge).

In the same interview, Edebiri revealed how she thinks the character of Carmy isn't destined for a romantic partner on the show.

"It’s TV, do you want to see Walter White go to therapy and then reunite with his family?" she joked on the matter.

"I love this little f**ked-up guy in the kitchen," she added, suggesting that the restaurant's kitchen is the best place for the Michelin star chef.

The end of season two saw the team successfully pull off their first dinner service, but not without an emotional toll on its staff.

There's been no news to date of a renewal from FX, but with season 2 garnering rave reviews and featuring a star-studded guest line-up (including Jamie Lee Curtis and Olivia Colman), there's certainly an appetite for more.

The Bear is available now on FX Networks and Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK. Season 2 is now available on Hulu in the US and on Disney+ in the UK.
