A Fort Worth police officer died suddenly Wednesday evening, officials said.

Officer Robert Guerrero was off duty when he suffered a medical emergency, Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said in a social media post.

“Events like this remind us of the deep bonds that bind us together as brothers and sisters in blue,” Noakes said. “Robert was an excellent officer and his service and dedication to this department will never be forgotten.”

The Fort Worth Police Officers Association described Guerrero as “a beacon of compassion and kindness,” and said he had touched innumerable lives through his service.

“He consistently went above and beyond to make a positive impact in the community he served,” the association posted on social media. “His commitment to justice and unwavering integrity served as an inspiration to his fellow officers and all who had the privilege of knowing him.”
