The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself star Nadia Parkes has been cast in the lead role of new BBC drama Kidnapped.

The actress will play Chloe Ayling, the British model who was abducted in Milan, Italy, back in 2017 after travelling there for a photoshooot.

"The series follows her terrifying kidnap, her bravery and resilience in captivity, and the subsequent court case that put her kidnappers in jail," reads an official synopsis for the upcoming six-part series.

"It will tell Chloe’s personal story in full for the first time, going behind the headlines to shine a light on the emotional truth."

Speaking about her new role, Nadia Parkes said: "This is a timely and important story about how we perceive trauma in the media. I feel honoured to be playing Chloe and to be a part of this adaptation for the BBC."

The supporting cast includes Rain Dogs' Adrian Edmondson, The Capture and My Family star Robert Lindsay, and actress Eleonora Romandini of The White Lotus season two fame.

Kidnapped will focus on the central story of Chloe's ordeal, in addition to commentary at the time which suggested Chloe had made her abduction up, whilst some blamed the model for the kidnappers’ crimes.

"How do we relate to survivors of crime who make the front pages?" teases the series synopsis. "And how does it feel to be an ordinary person, caught up in events so extraordinary that you aren’t believed?"

The six-part series has been written by Killing Eve's Georgia Lester and is based on interviews, research and official documents from legal proceedings, in addition to Chloe Ayling's book Kidnapped. The drama is being made in full cooperation with Chloe Ayling.

BBC Studios has confirmed Kidnapped will be distributed internationally.
