The BBC has released the first-look pictures of Dope Girls, a new British drama from Doctor Who and His Dark Materials studio Bad Wolf.

Set in 1918, men return to the UK after the end of World War I, only to find that the women they left behind have become empowered in their absence — and they have no interest in things returning to how they were before.

Delving into the birth of modern nightlife, the show follows single mother Kate Galloway (Julianne Nicholson) as she opens up an underground nightclub in Soho, which soon becomes a hive of illicit and exciting hedonistic activity.

Representing the progression of women on the other side of the law, Dope Girls also follows Violet Davies (Eliza Scanlen), a new police officer who is sent undercover to investigate Kate's club.

Other important characters are Kate's daughter Evie (Eilidh Fisher), and bohemian dancer Billie Cassidy (Umi Myers), who finds her life changed forever upon meeting Kate.

Further cast members for the show include Heartstopper's Sebastian Croft, Slow Horses' Dustin Demri-Burns, I May Destroy You's Ian Bonar, Downton Abbey's Geraldine James, 1917's Nabhaan Rizwan, The Crown's Will Keen, Polite Society's Priya Kansara, and Malpractice's Jordan Kouamé.

These released images showcase our main characters, with Kate and Billie appearing in both standard clothing and some more glamorous outfits, although it's worth pointing out that in one of these pictures, Kate's angel wing outfit looks like it has blood stains on it.

The six-part series recently finished filming in Wales, and is expected to air on BBC One, as well as being available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
