The Repair Shop will return to our screens featuring two special themed episodes, the BBC has confirmed.

The popular show will see host Jay Blades along with a team of expert crafters return to rescue and restore the public's beloved items when the show returns to BBC One on June 7.

The BAFTA-winning programme will return with four new episodes, including two themed specials marking the 75th anniversary of both the Empire Windrush's arrival to the UK and the birth of the NHS.

Presenter Jay has expressed his excitement that the show will return and teased the celebrity guests people can expect through the series.

"We cannot wait to share these four new peak episodes with you! We were honoured to welcome Poet Laureate Simon Armitage to the barn, and our two specials for Windrush and the NHS are also incredible," he said.

"Meeting Patrick Vernon OBE who has done so much to commemorate an important part of Black British history has been a personal high. And it was so moving for us to repair acclaimed author Michael Rosen's important document of his time in hospital during COVID. Generally, the stories and repairs in these four programmes are incredible and as ever we're super proud of the team."

The first episode will kick off welcoming the Poet Laureate Armitage where he hopes organ restorer David Burville can revive his treasured harmonium, the subject of one of his poems that holds memories of his late father.

Other treasures that will enter the barn include an early sculpture by an eminent Czech artist, a pair of child's leather clogs, and a silver charm bracelet.

Episode two sees a seized-up ventriloquist's dummy that's over a hundred years old being revamped by expert team Kirsten Ramsay, David Burville' and the Teddy Bear Ladies. Also, undergoing a transformation is a Roman-style leather chair, a one-off, handmade notebook used while birdwatching, and a brass cornet.

The third instalment will mark the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the Empire Windrush to the UK with the experts fixing four items that celebrate the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants. Items in this episode include a British passport, a suitcase known as a Gri, and a clock.

The barn's final visitor of the day is Patrick Vernon OBE who led the successful campaign for June 22 to be recognised each year as Windrush Day. He will bring a radiogram to be repaired that once belonged to his late friend Eddie Noble, a Second World War British-Jamaican veteran who settled in the UK following his service in the RAF.

This series will end with a celebration of the 75th birthday of the NHS, featuring former Children's Laureate and author Michael Rosen with a patient diary that was kept by NHS nurses while he was in a 40-day induced coma with COVID. Along with the notebook, Michael will bring letters, drawings, and notes that his young fans sent to him whilst he was in hospital, which will be turned into a more fitting tribute than the bundle they were previously kept.

The episode also sees transformations for a hospital trolley for Frimley Park's children's ward, a 1960s GP's bag and a study desk.

The Repair Shop returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer on June 7 at 8pm.
