Bayside champs! Mardela softball goes back-to-back, Decatur baseball scores 13 runs

Two Bayside South teams were crowned Bayside Conference Champions in their respective fields Wednesday afternoon, as the Mardela softball team and Stephen Decatur baseball team each brought Bayside titles back to their schools.

The undefeated Mardela Warriors walked into Margie Knight Stadium at Salisbury University as the defending Bayside champions, having won last year's title over North Dorchester. Facing that very same opponent in this year's championship game, the Warriors once again took care of business and staked their claim as the best team in the Bayside.

Starting pitcher Hayden Adkins threw five scoreless innings for Mardela, keeping North Dorchester off of the scoreboard. And on offense, Ava Twilley hit a solo home run to put the first point on the board for Mardela, with Twilley, Karsyn Shockley and Lexie Guy adding to the score with RBIs of their own. Twilley also took over on the mound in the final two innings, closing out the victory for Mardela.

Decatur baseball puts up 13 runs to bring home Bayside title

Over at Perdue Stadium, the Stephen Decatur Seahawks were looking for their second Bayside title in three years, facing off against the Bayside North's Colonel Richardson at the Delmarva Shorebirds' stadium. And the Seahawks lit up the scoreboard with plenty of runs, as they walked away with a 13-4 championship victory.

After the first few innings were scoreless on both sides, Decatur got on the board in the fourth inning, and followed it up with eight runs in the fifth to go up 9-0. Colonel would threaten to make a miraculous comeback, scoring four runs late in the sixth inning, but Decatur cruised the rest of the way.

Next up for both teams are the MPSSAA playoffs, as they each received a bye in the first round and await their opponents in the regional semifinals.
