Battle Creek man in stable condition following Hunter Street shooting Wednesday night

BATTLE CREEK — A 45-year-old Battle Creek man is in stable condition following a shooting Wednesday night on Hunter Street.

Officers responded to a report of a victim who had been shot in the 300 block of Hunter Street during a dispute with another man shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the Battle Creek Police Department.

Once on scene, officers located the victim, a 45-year-old Battle Creek man, and with the assistance of the Battle Creek Fire Department, made life-saving measures prior to the victim being transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The victim is currently in stable condition as of Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officers also located the suspect, a 27-year-old Battle Creek man, who was still on scene. Through the officers’ investigation and collection of evidence, the suspect was taken into custody, and is currently lodged at the Calhoun County Jail for assault with intent to murder and a warrant out of Calhoun County.

"The Battle Creek Police Department continues to investigate this incident and the suspect has yet to be arraigned on the assault with intent to murder charge, so the names of both the suspect and victim will not be released at this time," police said in a news release Thursday.
