The Penguin, the spin-off series to The Batman, has expanded its roster by casting stars from The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy.

As reported by Variety and Deadline, Michael Zegen and Theo Rossi have joined the cast for the show, which is set to focus on Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobblepot.

Zegen, who had a guest role in the second season of The Walking Dead, will reportedly play Alberto Falcone, the son of crime boss Carmine; the latter was played by John Turturro in Matt Reeves' feature film. Rossi, who played 'Juice' Ortiz on Sons of Anarchy, has not had his role disclosed.

As well as Zegen and Rossi, James Madio, Scott Cohen and Rhenzy Feliz have also joined the project, which is reportedly set a week after the events of the film. The eight-episode miniseries is being created by Lauren LeFranc, with Reeves serving as an executive producer; Mare of Easttown director Craig Zobel will helm the first three episodes.

The Penguin isn't the only spin-off to the 2022 film in the works, with a police procedural and Arkham Asylum-set project reportedly in development. Reeves' animated series, Caped Crusader, also received a new lease of life, with Amazon resurrecting the project earlier this week.

"We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City," said Reeves alongside fellow producers JJ Abrams and Bruce Timm. "The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman's noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world."

At the time of its announcement, WB and Cartoon Network president Sam Register said of the project: "Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for an entire generation of fans.

"It is in that spirit that we are bringing together three master storytellers in JJ, Matt and Bruce – each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character – to create a new series that will continue in the same groundbreaking legacy.”

The Batman is available to buy now on 4K Blu-ray, standard Blu-ray and DVD.
