Bass Pro Shops starts construction on $20M superstore, the fifth in Dallas-Fort Worth
Construction is beginning on a new Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World superstore in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, this one with a “unique completely custom design”
The 100,000-square-foot store is going up in Grand Prairie near Interstate 20 and President George Bush Turnpike interchange. The site, at 3720 S. State Highway 161, is just south of IKEA on the other side of the turnpike.
This will be the fifth Bass Pro destination retail store in the Metroplex.
“A team of talented artists and craftsmen will design the store’s localized imagery to reinforce its immersive outdoor theme,” the company says. “The signature creativity and attention to detail are hallmarks of every experience from Johnny Morris, who is often referred to as, ‘The Walt Disney of the Outdoors’ for his knack for creating amazing experiences that connect people with nature.”
Going up nearby is a new Andretti Indoor Karting and Games, which is building a 96,000-square-foot facility of its newest design that will feature an indoor climate-controlled kart track, arcade, virtual reality games, laser tag and duckpin bowling, according to the City of Grand Prairie. The Andretti store is expected to open late this year.
Another Andretti entertainment center is coming to the north side of Fort Worth, too.
The construction of the $20 million Bass Pro Shops will take more than a year, with a completion around Memorial Day 2024.
“These two mega attractions are a perfect blend with Grand Prairie’s robust array of powerhouse retail, entertainment and tourist venues,” Mayor Ron Jensen said in a statement last fall posted on the city’s website.
He called this and other new development along the corridor in Grand Prairie “a game changer.”
Bass Pro was founded in 1972 in Springfield, Missouri, where the company is headquartered. In 2017, it acquired Cabela’s. Today, Bass Pro Shops has 200 stores and Tracker Marine Centers across North America selling outdoor gear and apparel.
