Baseball roundup: Runyon leads Routt, Riverton clips PORTA highlight area games for April 3-4

Here's a look at local baseball results from the Springfield area for April 3-4.

Thursday’s results

JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 4, HARDIN CALHOUN 1: At Hardin, pitcher Brock Runyan yielded one unearned run in 6 2/3 innings and Conrad Charpentier drove in three runs as Routt posted a nonconference win.

Runyan allowed six hits and recorded six strikeouts while walking two. Routt committed four errors and Calhoun scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Charpentier, who finished 2-for-3 and got the last out of the game on the mound, hit a two-run double in the first inning. He added an RBI single in the fifth that followed a run-scoring double by Nate Turner.

Leadoff hitter Bryson Mossman went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the win.

RIVERTON 4, PETERSBURG PORTA 3 (9 innings): At Riverton, Isaac Crumrine hit a walk-off double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and Riverton eked out a win.

Julian Rice reached first base on a PORTA error and scored the game-winning run on Crumrine’s double. Riverton scored three runs in the bottom-half of the first on a two-run double by Ethen Bates and an RBI single by Ethan Giberson for an early 3-0 lead.

PORTA tied the game 3-3 in the second, scoring all three runs on two errors by Riverton.

Bradley Armstrong went 2-for-4 and scored a run for Riverton. Cole Howard threw two scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher in relief. Giberson pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Drew Atwater had three hits and Brody Landon was 2-for-3 with a run scored for PORTA.

PAWNEE 11, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 3: At Pawnee, the hosts put up seven runs in the first three innings en route to an MSM Conference win.

Carson Wort had a two-run double and stole third base to set up a sacrifice fly by Tyler Surber as Pawnee (9-3 overall, 4-1 in the MSM) led 3-0 after one inning.

Carson Contreras (2-for-2, two runs) doubled to start the second and Griffin Boblitt singled him in for a 4-0 lead. Boblitt later stole third and home to give Pawnee a five-run cushion.

Wort finished 2-for-3 and Caden Anderson had a hit and led the team with three RBIs. Carter Morell finished 2-for-4 and drove in a run with a single in the third. Wort pitched three innings for the win, striking out four, walking two and giving up two hits.

COLLINSVILLE 10, STAUNTON 4: At Collinsville, Staunton led 4-0 after two innings but Collinsville rallied to collect a nonconference win.

On Brady Gillen’s solo home run in the first inning, Staunton went up 1-0. Dillon Pritchett had an RBI single, Matthew Overby walked with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly by starting pitcher Drake Billings gave Staunton a 4-0 advantage after two.

But Collinsville got to Billings in the third, plating five runs on five hits. An RBI triple, a run-scoring single and a Staunton error that scored two runs keyed the Kahoks big inning.

The Bulldogs would finish with five hits and Billings lasted four innings, giving up seven hits and six runs (three earned) with one strikeout and one walk.

GREENVILLE 16, NOKOMIS 2: At Greenville, Nokomis mustered up just four hits and fell in a nonconference game.

Saint Newman had two hits for Nokomis (5-5) and scored a run. Ben Hutchinson (four runs) and Gus Olson had two hits apiece for Greenville, which scored four runs apiece in the first, second, third and fourth innings.

WEDNESDAY'S RESULT

GLEN CARBON FATHER MCGIVNEY 25, STAUNTON 4 (4 innings): At Staunton, Brady Gillen and Ashton Rizzi each had two RBIs for the Bulldogs.

Rizzi and Ethan Sharp collected the only hits for Staunton (3-11) in the nonconference loss.
