Baseball roundup: Bywater lifts Litchfield to win No. 22; plus other results from May 3

Here are local high school baseball results from around the Springfield area for Friday, May 3:

Friday's results

LITCHFIELD 4, VANDALIA 2: At Vandalia, Mathew Bywater went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot and accounted for a pair of runs with an RBI and a run scored in the Purple Panthers’ South Central Conference win.

With the win, Litchfield continues to close in on its school record of 25 wins. After Friday’s win, the Panthers are 22-6 overall and 5-2 in the SCC. Litchfield has five games remaining, including the final three on the road.

Ethan Saathoff went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Litchfield.

Tate Dobrinich struck out four in his complete-game win. He allowed two runs — none earned — on two hits and three walks.

NOKOMIS 6, RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 5: At Nokomis, Brenton Lyons hit a walk-off single to score a pair of runs in Nokomis’ MSM Conference win.

Jonah Elvidge gave Lincolnwood a 5-4 lead on a two-run single in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, Kannon Jonas led off with a single and Ian Keller gave Nokomis runners at first and second when his sacrifice bunt was misplayed. Saint Newman then loaded the bases with an infield single ahead of Lyons’ two-run line drive to center field.

Newman had three of his team’s seven hits, including a double. Lyons was the only other Nokomis player with a multi-hit effort.

Keller struck out 11 in five innings pitched. He gave up five runs — two earned — on seven hits and four walks. Levi German got the win with two shutout innings pitched. He struck out one, walked two and didn’t allow a hit.

Elvidge and Brody Lush each had a pair of hits for the Lancers.

NEW BERLIN 3, ATHENS 1: At Athens, starting pitcher Lucas Bixby fanned 12 batters in six strong innings as the Pretzels won a Sangamo Conference game.

Bixby limited Athens to two hits and allowed one earned run and two walks. Reid Hepperly yielded two hits, striking out one in his one inning of work to close out the game.

New Berlin went ahead 1-0 on an RBI single by Trevor Colwell in the fourth. Wesley Preckwinkle increased the Pretzels’ lead to 3-0 with a two-run double in the sixth.

Wyatt Gleason drove in the only run for Athens with a run-scoring single with two outs in the seventh.

JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 7, PLEASANT PLAINS 0: At Pleasant Plains, pitchers Jace Lautemann, Conrad Charpentier and Eli Olson combined on a three-hit shutout in a nonconference win.

Lautemann earned the win and he and Charpentier threw three innings each. Olson tossed one inning and the Routt trio combined for two strikeouts and one walk.

Routt scored a run each in the third and fourth innings and put the game away with five runs in the seventh. Nolan Turner doubled twice and scored two runs and Dalton Brown went 3-for-4 and finished with two RBIs. Charpentier ended with three RBIs without a hit.

GILLESPIE 6, HILLSBORO 0: At Gillespie, Luke Schuckenbrock hit a two-run single as the Hiltoppers cemented their South Central Conference win with a four-run sixth inning.

Gillespie led 3-0 with runners at second and third when Schuckenbrock hit a line drive to left field, allowing Carson Hailstone and Tristen Wargo to score. Two batters later, Jesse Berry’s single put Gillespie up 6-0.

Schuckenbrock finished 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Wargo was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Schuckenbrock also struck out six in a complete-game shutout. He allowed four hits and two walks and needed just 75 pitches to finish the outing.

Gillespie improved to 21-7 (overall, 7-1 SCC). Hillsboro fell to 5-20 (1-5).

CLINTON 4, LINCOLN 1: At Lincoln, Colbie Glenn doubled, had two of the Railsplitters’ five hits and pitched six innings of relief in Lincoln’s nonconference loss.
