Red Division

EAST BRUNSWICK

Coach: Chris Kenney, 12th seasonLast year: 15-12 overall, 5-7 in Red DivisionKey losses: Jack Nelson (CF); John Oranchak (LF); Ryan Schultz (1B); Jack Gerould (3B); Michael Marchese (INF); Joseph Ditzel (LHP)Roster: Dustin McGuinness (Sr., SS/RHP); Joseph Spinello (So., CF); Felix Munoz (Jr., C); Lukas Meyer (Sr., INF/RHP); Hayden Dziubeck; (Jr., RF/LHP); Derick Christie (Sr., RF); John Ryan (Sr., 1B/LHP); Drew Mennona (Sr., 2B); Joshua Kesser (Jr., INF/RHP); Jared MacWithey (Jr., LF/RHP); Connor Glynn (Jr., 3B/RHP); Jacob Hines (Sr., 3B); Patrick Ryan (Sr., OF); Jesse Beckman (Jr., C); Andrew Melcer (Jr., C); Andre Love (So., INF); Joshua Hines (So., INF/RHP); Julian Satterthwaite (So., INF/RHP); Brandon Bastek (So., C); Jordan Rudolph (Fr., 1B/RHP)Outlook: Pitching and defense have been the backbone of East Brunswick's success in recent years, and the team aims to maintain this strength going into the season. Despite the loss of key starters like Joe Ditzel and Michael Marchese, the team boasts experienced pitchers in seniors Dustin McGuinness (3.18 ERA, 50 Ks in 50 2/3 IP), Lukas Meyer and Jack Ryan and junior Joshua Kesser (1.68 ERA, 17 Ks in 16 2/3 IP). Additionally, the rotation will benefit from the depth provided by players like Hayden Dziubeck (Jr.), Connor Glynn (Jr.) and promising newcomers such as sophomores Andre Love, Joshua Hines, Julian Satterthwaite and freshman Jordan Rudolph.Defensively, East Brunswick faces the task of replacing several starters, but returning players like McGuinness (SS), Meyer (INF), Ryan (1B/P) and Joseph Spinello (CF) provide a solid foundation. Newcomers Hayden Dziubeck, Derick Christie, Jared MacWithey and Patrick Ryan will fill out the outfield, while Drew Mennona, Joshua Kesser, Connor Glynn and Jacob Hines cover the infield positions. Behind the plate, Felix Munoz brings his JV success (.343) to the varsity level, supported by sophomore Brandon Bastek.Offensively, the Bears look to build upon last year's .270 batting average with McGuinness, who is 21 hits away from 100 in his career leading the charge with his impressive .355 average. Backed by several returning starters and a JV team that hit .316, East Brunswick anticipates significant improvement at the plate this season.Overall, East Brunswick is poised to compete once again in the Red Division thanks to a deep pitching staff, solid defense and an improved offense. With a strong emphasis on fundamentals and the contributions of both returning players and newcomers, the team is confident of success in the upcoming season.

MONROE

Coach: Sean Field, fifth seasonLast year: 14-11 overall, 8-7 in Red DivisionKey losses: Trevor Wallace (3B); Nick Sellari (SS); Aidan Lane (LF); Larry Casey (C)Roster: Robert Toye (Sr., C); Zack Wallace (Sr., RHP); Nick Mennella (Sr., INF); Kyle McCauley (Sr., CF); Eric Petrow (Sr.); Justin Mangano (So., C/INF); Sai Lekkala (Sr., LHP/1B/OF); Harrison Lollin (Sr., 1B/RHP); Jake Lobue (Jr., RF); Lucas White (Sr., 2B/RHP); Braeden Hoiberg (Jr., INF); Owen Judge (Jr., INF); Ryan Olmo (Jr., C); Ohm Desai (Jr., RHP); Nate Peitz (Sr., P)Outlook: Monroe returns a strong rotation bolstered by the return of their top three starters from last season in Harrison Lollin (Penn State commit, 1.77 ERA, 83 Ks in 59 1/3 IP), Lucas White (Kean commit, 3.38 ERA, 48 Ks, 39 1/3 IP) and Zack Wallace (1.89 ERA, 35 Ks in 33 1/3 IP). The deep staff includes Ohm Desai (2.90 ERA in 19 1/3 IP) and Nate Peitz (1.05 ERA in 6 2/3 IP). That’s going to give the Falcons an edge in the always tough two-game divisional series and the postseason. In fact, things have been on the upswing at Monroe, which has improved on its GMC Tournament performance in each of the last three years. Last year, the Falcons reached the semifinals – remember Lucas White’s no-hitter in the 1-0 quarterfinal win over South Brunswick – after losing in the quarters in 2022 and the first round in 2021.However, Monroe must replace its entire infield minus White at second base. He was also a leader at the plate (.347 BA, 13 RBI). Lollin was another two-way star, hitting .375 with 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

NORTH BRUNSWICK

Coach: Jake Rosenberg, first season

Last year: 21-7 overall, 11-5 in Red DivisionKey losses: Zach Konstantinovsky (P/INF), Omar Carreras (INF/C), Justin Batts (INF), Frankie Garbolino (C/INF), EJ Accettura (OF), Josh Rodriguez (INF), Sammy Berardo, Marvin Mathias (P/OF)Roster: Yomar Carreras (Sr., SS); Kyle Anderson (Sr., RHP/OF); Alejandro Jabar (Sr., LH P/1B); Chris Rosario (Sr., INF/RHP); Connor Levine (Jr., INF, RHP); Avery Price (Sr., OF); Daniel Breheney (Sr., OF); Jaser Martinez Amparo (Sr., OF); Aaron Wilhelm (Sr., RHP/INF); Tim DeGaetano (Jr., C/INF); Andrew Selover (Jr., C); Anger Gonzalez (Sr., OF); Carlos Estudillo Jimenez (Jr. RH P/OF); Angelo Gomez (Jr., INF); Jason Frabizio (Jr., LHP); Willy Pena Paulino (Fr., INF); Chris Cardinoza (Fr., INF/OF); Myles White (Sr., INF); Brian Vasquez (Sr., INF/OF); Esteban Tavarez (Sr., OF)Outlook: The Raiders graduated so many great players like do-everything Zachary Konstantinovsky and slugger Omar Carreras, one might think it could be a rebuilding season. Far from it. The North Brunswick program is just fine with several veteran players ready to take on bigger roles. For one, slick-fielding shortstop Yomar Carrera (Rutgers commit, with over 100 career hits) batted .411 last season with 39 hits. Chris Rosario (.320 BA, 24 hits) is another fledgling star and is a stolen-base threat with his speed. North Brunswick should also be just fine on the mound to make up for the ace Konstantinovsky leaving. Alejandro Jabar (37 IP, 2.05 ERA, 29 Ks) and Kyle Anderson (41 IP, 2.06 ERA, 22 K’s) will get the ball in big games. Connor Levine mans the third rotation spot after throwing 16 innings as a sophomore to a 1.34 ERA. Raiders alum Jake Rosenberg takes over as head coach for Mark Blevins. He played baseball, football and basketball at North Brunswick. As a coach, Rosenberg led Piscataway Magnet to a share of the Silver Division title last season, the program’s first division title in over 30 years, and he was selected the Silver Coach of the Year. He is also the wide receivers coach for the Raiders football team.

OLD BRIDGE

Coach: Matt Donaghue, sixth seasonLast year: 21-9 overall, 9-6 in Red DivisionKey losses: Thomas Papeo (SS), Adam Scire (2B), Mike Villani (OF), Kyle McSorley (C), Shawn Bogda (1B)Roster: Frank Papeo (Sr., 1B/OF/LHP); Justin Meyer (Sr., OF/RHP); Evan Smith (Sr., OF/RHP); Justin Hascup (Jr., 3B/RHP); John Smith (Jr., SS/RHP); Christian Cavanagh (Sr., C); Akhil Penkala (Jr., 1B/DH/RHP); Luke Hagen (Sr., LHP); Aiden Kipper (Sr., RHP); Justin Hascup (Jr., RHP); Ryan Saunders (Sr., INF); Noah Balbuena (Jr., 1B); Jason Cota (Jr., C); Brody Nugent (So., OF); Brady Meyer (Fr., INF); Michael Altman (Sr., 1B/DH); Colten Benevento (Sr., OF); Anthony Jannucci (Jr., C/DH); Michael Chiarella (So., INF/RHP); Chris Crosta (So., INF); Adrian Lutomski (So., OF/C); Harry Denney (So., UTL); Sean Forrester (Sr., INF); Erich Schikschneit (So., INF/RHP); Dominick Botte (Jr., INF); Chris Burns (Jr., INF); John Sorrao (Jr., OF); Matt Levitt (So., OF)Outlook: The Knights had a magical postseason run last spring that included winning the Central Group 4 title and advancing to the program’s first state title game. While Old Bridge does lose some key seniors, enough pieces are back that everything points for another stellar season. The pitching-rich Knights return 20 wins from last year and 190 combined innings. Frank Papeo (Rider commit, 1.64 ERA), Justin Hascup (1.75 ERA), Justin Meyer (Kean commit, 1.96 ERA) and Luke Hagen (Rutgers Newark commit, 3.23 ERA) gives Old Bridge a chance to win just about any game. The quartet combined for 179 strikeouts, led by Papeo’s 71 K’s.The Knights lose some offensive firepower in Thomas Papeo (.402 BA), Kyle McSorley (team-high 27 RBIs) and Mike Villani (.389 BA). Returning offensive players include Frank Papeo, Justin Meyer, Evan Smith, John Smith, Justin Hascup and Akhil Penkala. The Knights have options battling for starting spots and will look at seniors to fill those spots with a talented young group mixing in. Christian Cavanagh takes over behind the plate to handle the experienced pitching staff. Old Bridge will once again play a difficult schedule with tough out-of-conference games against powers like Millburn, Red Bank Catholic and Seton Hall Prep.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK

Coach: Mike Pallitto, first yearLast year: 11-14 overall, 3-11 in Red DivisionKey losses: Joey Tuttoilmondo (P), Ryan Kessler (C), Sager Thaper (P)Roster: Aaron Perna (Sr., OF/RHP); Anthony Servedio (Sr., RHP); Atticus Solomons (Sr., RHP); Brian Culhane (Sr., OF/RHP); Danny Kirk (Sr., INF/RHP); Ethan Fantel (Sr., 1B/LHP); Jack Leach (Sr., OF/RHP); Nick Stenger (Sr., OF/LHP); Will Haman (Sr., INF/RHP); John Koch (Jr., LHP); Colin Perna (So., UTL/RHP); Will Sassman (So., UTL/LHP); Jake Graci (Sr., C); Joe Sanchez (Sr., C); Teddy Garcia (Sr., INF), Christian Andersen (Jr., C)Outlook: While the Vikings are coming off two sub .500 seasons, they always play teams tough and get their share of Red Division wins. This spring should be no exception despite graduating ace Joey Tuttoilmondo (1.44 ERA, 84 K in 42 2/3 IP) and catcher Ryan Kessler. The experienced squad includes one of the GMC’s top sluggers in Ethan Fantel (.352 BA, .511 OBP, .718 SLG, 5 HR, 11 2B). They also have Brian Culhane, Teddy Garcia and Will Haman, who each hit .300 or better. That building block should complement well with the young pitchers. Tuttoilmondo and Sager Thaper were the only senior pitchers last season, meaning a wave of experienced arms are back. Anthony Servedio (2.14 ERA in 19 2/3 IP), Haman (2.33 ERA in 33 IP) and Fantel (3.86 ERA, 44 K in 32 2/3 IP) lead the way. Many of the players have played together for a long time and are motivated to succeed. Mike Pallitto takes over as head coach for Tim Sweeney. Pallitto enters the GMC after being an assistant coach for his alma mater Matawan the last two years and was the freshmen coach at Steinert before then. At Matawan, he was All-Shore Conference in 1993 and played collegiately at Brookdale and Slippery Rock University. He also played for a season for the Adirondack Lumberjacks in the Northern League. He returned to Matawan as a coach for three seasons in 1997-1999. Pallitto stopped coaching after taking a job in New York City but returned to high school coaching in 2021.

SOUTH PLAINFIELD

Coach: Scott Gleichenhaus, fourth seasonLast year: 15-14 overall, 6-8 in Red DivisionKey losses: Ashton Donovon (1B/P), Frank Flannery (C), Joseph Maroney (OF), Mike Sbailo (P)Roster: Aldo Pigna (Sr., OF/LHP); Chase Donovan (Sr., RHP); Zach Robinson (Sr., INF); Andrew Csordos (Sr., RHP); Jayden Alvarez (Sr., INF); Brandon Bickunas (Sr., 1B/OF); Dan Kapsch (Jr., INF); Nick Irizarry (Jr., C/OF/INF); Kevin Penny (Jr., 1B/OF/LHP); Ryan Balent (Jr., OF/RHP); Mike Castagna (Jr., RHP); Steve Studlack (Jr., C); Jack Jones (Jr., OF/RHP); Lorenzo Fuscoletti (Jr., UTL/RHP); Dominic Massaro (So., OF/LHP); Aiden McCarthy (So., 1B/LHP); Anthony Tomei (Jr., 1B); Dave Butrico (Jr., RHP); Anthony Grzan (Sr., OF)Outlook: The Tigers return an experienced squad looking to avenge a pair of one-run semifinal losses that ended both their GMCT and state playoff bids against the eventual champions in St. Joseph and Millburn. The team has plenty of proven varsity talent that trickles from seniors to sophomores. Leading the way are captains and heavy hitters Jayden Alvarez (Wagner commit, .410 BA, 3 HR, 24 RBI, 32 hits, 20 runs) and Dan Kapsch (.350, 29 hits, 21 runs last year as a sophomore). Sophomore OF Dom Massaro (.402, 39 hits, 14 extra base hits, 31 runs, 29 RBI, 18 stolen bases) was one of the state’s best freshmen, and senior slugger Zach Robinson (Gardner-Webb commit, .393 BA, 4 HR, 26 RBI, 26 runs) adds to the lineup’s firepower. Kevin Penny (.333 BA) and senior Brandon Bickunas (12 runs) are also counted on to produce, while veterans Aldo Pigna and Nick Irizarry will be competing with others to figure into the mix. The Tigers are equally strong on the mound with returning aces Pigna (Kean commit, 2.72 ERA in 38 2/3 IP) and Penny (2.33 ERA in 33 IP). Both carried this team down the stretch last year with their pitching performances. The staff includes seniors Chase Donovan, Andrew Csordos and Robinson, along with newcomers Aiden McCarthy, Ryan Balent, Mike Castagna, Lorenzo Fuscoletti, Jack Jones and Dave Butrico. Those arms look to provide the staff with the depth needed to compete in the Red Division.

ST. JOSEPH

Coach: Mike Murray, eighth season Last year: 21-10 overall, 7-5 Red DivisionKey losses: Mark Gialluisi (C), Jimmy Mulvaney (RH), Bryan Rios (RH), Josiah Brown (SS), Tyler Delvecchio (1B), Robbie Carvelli (CF), Conor Drury (RF), Will Ramsay (RF), Christian Azcona (DH), Charlie Algier (IF), Benny Fonseca (LH), Jaden Jamison (OF), Michael DaSilva (RH), Mason Cinca (RH)Roster: Christian Salgado (Sr., C/OF); Zach Penley (Jr., C); Billy Makowski (Jr., C/OF); Matthew Ferber (Jr., 1B); Matthew Friedman (Jr., RHP/1B); Joseph Barca (Jr., RHP/DH); Bobby Christensen (Jr., INF); Joseph Zammitti (Sr., INF); Reid Bazydlo (So., RHP/INF); JP Zayle (Jr., 3B/RHP); Connor Walker (So., LHP/1B); Richie Zangara (Jr., RHP); John Palermo (Jr., LHP); Domenic Erbafina (Jr., RHP); JJ Healey (Sr., RHP); Lorenz Matanguihan (Sr., OF); Johnny Risley (Sr., RHP/OF); William Kwiatkowski (Sr., OF/INF); Damian Pipitone (Jr., CF); Brayden Danchak (Jr., OF); Justin Douglas (Sr., OF); Danny Internoscia (Jr., 1B/OF); Logan Ring (Fr., OF/3B); Luke Palermo (Fr., LHP/1B); Danny Podurgiel (Jr., OF); Giacomo Imperiale (Jr., RHP); Drew Hartong (Jr. LHP)Outlook: The Falcons graduated a large senior class in 2023 that was a large part of the team’s success over the last three seasons – three-straight GMCT finals appearances with two championships. Now, the 2024 Falcons will have a lot of fresh faces, along with a base of returning stalwarts who are looking to usher in the next run of Saint Joseph baseball. On the mound, junior returners Matthew Friedman (1.87 ERA, 33 2/3 IP) and Joseph Barca (2.66 ERA, 24 Ks in 23 2/3 IP) will lead the way after being key contributors on last year’s GMC title and Non-Public A South finalist team. Offensively, the Falcons will lean on the experience of Bobby Christensen (.351 BA) and Joseph Zammitti (.342 BA, 25 RBIs), who were equally important on the offensive and defensive side to last year’s club. JP Zayle, Matthew Ferber, Luke Palermo, Reid Bazydlo, Christian Salgado, Connor Walker and Johnny Risley are early names to watch. As the team gains varsity experience in the first half of the year, the Falcons hope to again be in position in the league tournament come May.

White Division

COLONIA

Coach: Mike Scialfo, seventh seasonLast year: 9-14 overall, 5-7 in White DivisionKey losses: Ed Tapia (INF), Dylan Conklin (OF/P), Jeff Trinca (1B)Roster: Luke Celebrano (Sr., OF); Casey Chiola (Sr., C); Tim Gomez (Sr., INF); Tim Matten (Sr., OF); Anthony Singh (Sr., OF/RHP); Matt Fasulo (Jr., INF/RHP); Jake Harvatt (Jr., INF/RHP); Nick Minue (Jr., OF/RHP); Cory Pascarella (Jr., INF/RHP); Dylan Chiera (So., INF/RHP); Tyler Chiola (So., INF/RHP); Jake Gotti (So., INF); James Kinahan (So., INF); Colin Kroner (So., INF/RHP); Joseph Massminio (Fr., OF); Nick Milone (Fr., C); Paul Asseng (Fr., INF)Outlook: Expect a youth movement in Colonia this season as most of the roster isn’t old enough to drive. The Patriots have 28 total players in their program, and 19 of them are freshmen and sophomores. The good thing is the younger players should get plenty of chances to crack the lineup and gain experience quickly. The offense will be powered by three-year starter Casey Chiola (.380 BA, 15 RBIs, 19 runs), who will play at Ramapo next year. The Patriots' defense will be led by Matt Fasulo (20 runs), Dylan Chiera (.340 BA, 17-for-50) and Luke Celebrano. Colonia doesn’t return a lot of innings on the mound. One bonus is the return of Cory Pascarella, a junior who hasn't pitched since his freshman year due to an injury last year. They’ll also rely on the arms of Kroner, Chiera, Singh, Minue and Chiola.

EDISON

Coach: Vinnie Abene, 22nd seasonLast year: 16-10 overall, 8-4 in White DivisionKey losses: Matt Yascko (OF); Charlie Taub (C); Jackson Ferrer (1B, RHP); Jordan Martins (INF); Paul DiCarlo (OF); Paul di Pasquale (OF); Ryan Berner (INF, OF)Roster: Jaxon Appelman (Sr., INF/RHP); Noel Chipoco (Sr., INF/RHP); Je’sei Lakatos (Sr., INF); Mason Murphy (Sr., DH/RHP); Jeremy Hutchins (Sr., INF/RHP); Jeff Westdyke (Sr., OF); Anthony Calantoni (Jr., INF); Brody Ferrer (Jr., C); Teddy Eyler (Jr., OF); Robert Roma (So., OF/LHP); Dominic Innocenti (So., INF/RHP); Darren Tirado (So., OF); Connor Murphy (So. INF/RHP); AJ Dima Jr (So., INF); Shaun Garland (Fr., INF/DH); Ray Tavarez, (Fr., INF/RHP); Gavin Boslet (Fr., C/RHP)Outlook: The Eagles have some graduation holes to fill, including three-year starting catcher Charlie Taub (University of Maine) and co-ace Paul di Pasquale (5-1, 1.88 ERA). They also lose four other starters, so there was plenty of competition in the pre-season and the lineup will see five new hitters in it. A good building block is Jaxon Appelman, a potential Player of the Year candidate. The Coastal Carolina commit is a two-way star on the mound (5-3, 1.38 ERA, 82 Ks in 50 2/3 IP) and at the plate (.381 BA, 5 HR, 21 RBIs). He’ll be joined by returning sophomore starters Robert Roma (.352 BA, 13 RBI, 17 runs) and Dom Innocenti. Two-year starter Anthony Calantoni looks to make the move to SS.

J.P. STEVENS

Coach: Tyler Jackow, second season Last Year: 8-18 overall, 2-10 White DivisionKey Losses: Mihir Patel (INF/P); Justin Bonito (1B/P); Matthew Jason (P); Tanush Ashok (INF); Ankith Kunduru (INF/P); Preet Patel (INF/C)Probable Lineup: Jackson Fong (Sr., CF/RHP); John Papaianni (Sr., C/UTL); Casden Mui (Sr., OF/RHP); Lansen Mui (So., INF/RHP); Dev Desai (Jr., UTIL), Michael Gonzalez (Sr., OF/1B); Nolan Overmyer (So., C/UTL/RHP); Soham Prajapati (So., INF/RHP); Armaan Bilimoria (Sr., 1B/OF); Aarush Patel (Fr., OF/LHP); Peter Dudash (Sr., OF); Nithin Ragunathan (Sr., OF); John Dickinson (Sr., 1B/LHP); Krrish Chaudhari (Sr., OF); Arav Patel (So., OF/LHP); Mukund Rao (Jr., OF); Jaden Kasim (So., 1B/P); Shloak Patel (So., UTL)Outlook: The Hawks are coming off a competitive season in which they had eight losses by two runs or less and two others by three runs. They’re now led by senior captains and returning multi-year starters John Papaianni and Jackson Fong, who provide power, speed and great defense. While the Hawks must replace the departure of graduated All-Division caliber players in Justin Bonito (Drew University) and Mihir Patel (Emory University), as well as Matthew Jason (Middlesex College), the coaching staff is excited to see what the young core guys have to offer. As freshmen last season, the trio of Lansen Mui, Nolan Overmyer and Soham Prajapati had to contribute right away in key roles amongst the veteran group. This year, they have a bigger role and have matured after all the offseason workouts. The Hawks also return senior Casden Mui, who will compete to be the team’s ace after hurling 31 innings last season. Seniors Mike Gonzalez and Armaan Bilimoria look to contribute to the lineup offensively. Freshman Aarush Patel hopes to make an immediate impact in the lineup and on the mound.

MIDDLESEX

Coach: Justin Nastasi, 10th seasonLast year: 17-9 overall, 8-4 GMC White DivisionKey Losses: Justin Gordon (C); Michael Canavesio (3B/P); Tomas Lavornia (SS)Roster: Frank Berta (Sr., P/1B); Lunden Chadwell (Jr., RHP); Sean Hughes (So., 3B/C); Dylan Ianiero (Fr., OF); Daniel Ianiero (Fr., C); Luke Jones (Fr., OF/DH); Ryan Kobilis (Jr., OF/LHP); Chris Kozak (So., OF/RHP); Marcus Lavornia (So., INF); Dominic Long (Fr., INF/RHP); James Matula (So., OF/LHP); Dalton Michael (So., 1B/LHP); Dominic Parenti (Jr., SS); Owen Reynolds (Jr., INF/RHP); Tyler Mroz (Sr., MNG)Outlook: Middlesex is just one of those teams that’s always in the mix. This spring, the Blue Jays will have a young team with only one senior. However, Middlesex does have returning varsity players in Dominic Parenti (.388 BA, 17 RBI, 15 runs), Owen Reynolds, Marcus Lavornia and Chris Kozak. Middlesex is looking for newcomers Dominic Long, Dylan and Daniel Ianero to step in and make immediate impacts on the varsity. Middlesex also graduated its top three pitchers in Michael Canavesio, Alfonso Esposito and Aidan Kozak. Sophomore Chris Kozak (2.68 ERA in 15 2/3 IP) gained key experience as a rookie. Long, Frank Berta and Lunden Chadwell will be relied on for the pitching staff as the Blue Jays look to again make a run in Central Group 1. Two-way players Ryan Kobilis and Dalton Michael are also seeking to fill major roles.

PERTH AMBOY

Coach: Damon Clark, fifth seasonLast year: 4-18 overall, 0-12 GMC White DivisionKey Losses: Melvin Jiminez (INF) Erwin Candeleria (LHP)Roster: Julian Collado (Sr., OF); Flamin Ynoa (Jr., OF); Christopher Rodriguez (Jr., INF/C); Edgar DeLeon (Sr., INF/OF/RHP); Jariel Dominguez (So., INF); Anthony Ortega (Sr., RHP); Sebastian Aponte (Sr., SS); Yendy Tomas (Jr., INF); Jose Neras (Sr., OF/DH); Angel Abreu (Sr., C); John Almonte (Sr., C); Justin Foy (Jr., 1B/RHP); Jay Cruz (Sr., RHP); Jayden Hernandez (Sr., RHP); Chris Aracena (Jr., INF); Abel Lopez (Sr., OF/LHP); Cesar Suriel (Jr., INF/RHP); Armando Lagomarsini (Sr., OF); Gabriel Morales (Sr., OF); Joel Santos (Sr., INF/RHP); Gary Rojas (So., OF); Frankely Rodriguez (So., OF/1B)Outlook: The young and inexperienced Panthers ended the season on a hot streak by winning six of their last seven games and the GMC Invitational championship. Now, they look to build off that momentum and take a step forward with a good start this spring. Head coach Damon Clark noted the team realized they needed to work harder in the offseason and lived in the weight room since the end of last year. Everyone except one starter returns this year, along with a few new pieces, which should help. Christopher Rodriguez (INF) and Flamin Ynoa (OF) will join the starters and bat in the heart of the lineup. Right-handers Justin Foy and Anthony Ortega are the top rotation guys, and both have increased their velocity dramatically over the offseason. Seniors Edgar DeLeon and Jay Cruz (Caldwell commit) round out the rotation and are ready for big seasons. Senior captains Julian Collado (CF) and Sebastian Aponte (SS, Georgian Court commit, returning All-Division pick) have led the team all off-season and will be table setters at the top of the order. As a bonus, both ran winter track for the first time to work on their speed and were named team captains. Justin Foy will man first base when he’s not pitching and is set to hit in the middle of the order. Jose Neras and Jariel Dominguez have both looked great at the plate and in the field in the preseason.

SAYREVILLE

Coach: Tim Ballard, first season Last year: 16-10 overall, 10-2 White DivisionKey Losses: Michael Colonnello (OF), Michael Novak (OF), Aayush Mehta (P/INF) Roster: Jake Romanello (Sr., OF); Jaydon Stio (Sr., INF); Jack Zapoticzny (Sr., LHP); Moe Hedderman (Sr., 1B/LHP); Marc Giordano (Sr., INF); Brady Tramatulo (Sr., INF/RHP); Jaiden Johnson-Molina (Sr., 1B); Thomas Schlaline (Jr., 1B/RHP); Michael Robinson (Jr., C); James Kehoe (Jr., OF/RHP); Justin Marrero (Jr., INF); Joe Santamaria (Jr., INF); Bobby Shaw (Jr., C); Logan Kaufman (So., OF/RHP); Justin Maher (So., OF/LHP); Chase Cannan (Fr., INF/RHP); Alec Kenny (Fr., 1B/LHP); Andrew Provenza (Fr., C/OF)Outlook: The defending White Division champions once again should be in the mix with four returning starters led by All-GMC player Jake Romanello (.425 BA, 28 runs, 20 SB). Also back are Jaydon Stio (19 runs), Mikey Robinson and Tommy Schlaline to help the balanced offense. Senior Moe Hedderman, who returns after a year away, should provide more pop in the middle of the lineup. Newcomers Jimmy Kehoe, Justin Marrero, Logan Kaufman and Chase Cannan (Fr.) will look to contribute offensively as well. Defensively, Robinson is in charge of a pitching staff that returnsSchlaline (3.03 ERA 43 Ks in 37 IP), Kehoe and Jack Zapoticzny. Kaufman, Hedderman and Brady Tramatulo look to also see significant innings on the mound. Marc Giordano, Jaiden Johnson-Molina, Joe Santamaria and Andrew Provenza add depth around the diamond. Tim Ballard, who was the head coach at J.F. Kennedy for the last five seasons, returns to lead his alma mater.

WOODBRIDGE

Coach: Mike Monaco, seventh seasonLast year: 20-6 overall, 9-3 White DivisionKey Losses: Ty Kobylakiewicz (1B)Roster: Tyler Weber (Sr., C); Shawn Kish (Sr., UTL/RHP); Drew Lukachyk (Sr., INF/RHP); Xavier Diaz (So., INF); Ryan Leach (Jr., 1B/RHP); Tim Deignan (Sr., OF); Bryan German (Jr., INF); Derek Oxner (Jr., INF/C); Derek Anderson (Jr., OF); Dean Fiore (Sr., OF/LHP); Eddy Nunez (Sr., RHP); Jostiel Valdez (Sr., OF/LHP); Billy Mansfield (So., 1B/RHP); Tyler Simkovich (Jr., OF/RHP); Yadiel Pena (So., 1B/RHP); Mike Travostino (Sr., INF); Jack Brenner (Sr., OF); Luke Casaliggi (Jr., UTL); Gavin Slicner (So., UTL); Bryant Pereira (Jr., OF)Outlook: The Barrons bring back a loaded team that graduated just one starter from last year’s 20-win squad that reached the North 2 Group 4 semifinals. The loss, however, is a big one in Ty Kobylakiewicz, who led the Barrons in almost every offensive statistical category and has filled the four-hole for the last two seasons, in which the Barrons won a combined 45 games (25 wins in 2022). Kobylakiewicz (.479 BA, 30 runs, 25 RBI) was named First-Team All-GMC among other accolades. Woodbridge also loses speedy senior AJ Bosch (27 runs, 21 SB), who isn’t playing this spring. The good news for the Barrons is they return numerous players with multiple years of varsity success. That includes all 176 innings pitched from 2023, headlined by a pair of aces. Eddy Nunez (Felician commit) is an All-Conference, All-White Division and Quad County All- Star (6-3, 2.24 ERA, 72 Ks in 56 IP in 2023, and in 2022 he was 10-3, 2.00 ERA, 65 Ks in 63 IP). Ryan Leach emerged as one of the top pitchers in the conference as a sophomore last season and will also headline the rotation. In 2023, Leach (7-1, 2.50 ERA, 73 Ks, 50 IP) was selected as a GMC Underclassman All-Star. Offensively, the Barrons bring back firepower in two All-White Division selections Drew Lukachyk and Tyler Weber. Lukachyk (.375 BA, 17 R, 34 H, 33 RBIs, 13 XBH, 3 HR) knocked 30-plus hits for the second consecutive season and led the team in RBIs. He’ll man the three-hole. The Middlesex College-commit will also continue to assume the Barrons’ closer role. The three-year starter Weber (.448 BA, 29 R, 30 H, 20 RBIs, 8 XBH, 1 HR) has emerged as one of the conference’s premier catchers. Shawn Kish (PSU Abington commit, .315 BA, 23 H, 18 R, 12 RBI, 5 XBH) will return for his third season as a starter and provide pop at the top of the lineup. He’s also a key pitcher (4-1, 2.52 era, 20 K). Dean Fiore will man CF for the third consecutive season. In 2023, Fiore notched 12 hits (5 XBH) and played an exceptional center field. On the mound, Fiore pitched to a 2.10 ERA (19 Ks in 16 IP). Senior Outfielder Tim Deignan also returns for his third varsity season (.300 BA, 18 hits), and Xavier Diaz will hit in the middle of the lineup after standing out as a freshman (.316 BA, 25 H, 18 R, 13 RBIs, 8 XBH) and being named as a GMC Underclassman and Quad County All-Star. Jostiel Valdez, Derek Anderson, Bryan German and Derek Oxner all saw varsity time in 2023 and will look to round out the Barrons lineup. They are primed to again be tough outs in the GMC and sectional tournaments.

Blue Division

J.F. KENNEDY

Coach: Arthur Davis, first season Last year: 13-13 overall, 8-5 Blue DivisionKey Losses: Jeremy Ricourt (SS); Justin Rodriguez (2B); Gabe Perez (OF); Donovan Claiborne (1B)Roster: Grant Lorentzen (So., CF/RHP); RJ Coleman (Sr., RHP); Braden Mellage (Jr., C); Zach Tyler (Jr., LF); Rodner Arnaud (Jr., RF); Kevin Portorreal (Jr., SS/RHP); Michael Rosales (So., 3B); Dev Patel (Sr., 1B/LHP); Jayker Ogando (So., 2B); Ronny Arnaud (Sr., OF); Myles Ulaky (So., RHP); Zach Tyler (Jr., RHP); Michael Rosales (So., RHP); Rodner Arnaud (Jr., RHP); Luis Pimentel (Sr., C/RHP); Angel Peralta (Jr., OF); Ayden Jerez (Jr., INF); Chazz Ruiz (Sr., OF); Jeremy Fishman (Sr., INF)Outlook: Pitching is so important, and the Mustangs are poised for an exciting season led by their experienced arms. Returning ace RJ Coleman (Stockton commit, 2.26 ERA, 62 K in 49 2/3 IP) has been a constant on the mound since his freshman year. Seasoned pitchers Grant Lorentzen (2.40 ERA, 35 IP) and Myles Ulaky give talent and depth to the rotation. Promising newcomers like Michael Rosales, Kevin Portorreal and Rodner Arnautep are ready to make their mark. Offensively, Coleman is also a force at the plate (.315 BA, team-high 26 RBI). Several varsity newcomers are bringing fresh energy and are ready to step in for the graduated seniors, including Portorreal at shortstop, Jayker Ogando at second base and Braden Mellage at catcher. The next chapter of Mustangs baseball is under Arthur Davis, who takes over for Tim Ballard. Davis is no stranger to the program and is excited to bring his passion and expertise for the game as the new head coach. He was an assistant the past four seasons at JFK and previously spent a season at Freehold Township and Holmdel. The North Carolina native played at NCAA Division 1 North Carolina A&T State University and coached in North Carolina before moving to New Jersey five years ago.

METUCHEN

Coach: Leo Danik, 14th season Last year: 9-12 overall, 5-7 Blue DivisionKey Losses: Henry Busch (OF); Max Cohn (LHP/OF); Marcus Malamug (RHP/INF); Heaven Richardson (OF); Yassar Marquez (OF)Roster: Ike Busch (Sr., OF/RHP); Nicholas Calantoni (Sr. SS); Daniel Cordes (Sr., 1B/RHP); Joseph Fenton (Sr., SS/RHP); Robert Nawn (Sr., OF/1B); Lucas Weiss (Sr., INF/RHP); Michael Schwalje (Jr., INF); Sean Dereka (So., INF/RHP); Michael Dickey (So., C/OF); Matt Jelleme (So., OF/LHP); Lucas Malamug (So., C/INF/RHP); Jon Nugent (So., INF/RHP); Simon Rosal (So., INF/RHP); Gianni Ciambotti (So., OF/LHP); Ryan Alessi (Fr., C/INF/RHP); Aeneas Ralph (Fr., OF/LHP); Joseph Tamburello (Fr., OF/RHP)Outlook: The Bulldogs have a wealth of young talent that the team hopes emerges quickly this spring. Good starting points are returning All-Blue Division senior Lucas Weiss (.364 BA, 10 RBI) and classmate Daniel Cordes (.407 BA, 12 RBI). Both are also staples on the mound as Weiss had a 3.47 ERA in 38 1/3 innings, and Cordes posted a 3.71 ERA in 28 1/3 innings. Lucas Malamug hit .327 with 11 RBI last year as a freshman. Ike Busch and Nicholas Calantoni are other key returners, and Joseph Fenton is back after hitting .347 with 13 RBIs in 2022. The Bulldogs struggled last year in games because of their inexperience but hope to rebound with more seasoning from players like Matt Jelleme and Simon Rosal. Youngsters Ryan Alessi and Joseph Tamburello are a couple Bulldogs on which to keep your eye.

NORTH PLAINFIELD

Coach: Stephen Zurawiecki, third seasonLast year: 4-19 overall, 0-12 Blue DivisionKey Losses: Joan Herrera (OF); Bryce Leonard (OF)Roster: Davyn Ciriaco (Jr., INF); Tommy Zotollo (Jr., P/OF); Jake Zotollo (So., C/P); Victor Ceda (So., UTL/P); Mark Fultz (So., INF/OF/P); Bennie Sokolowski (So., INF/P); Chloe Rodriguez (So., INF/P); Jayden Brea (Sr., OF); Angel Ortiz (Sr., OF); Ian Lameira (Fr., UTL/P); Jake Six (Fr. INF) Outlook: The Canucks are looking to show improvement after returning six starters from last season. All-Division infielder Davyn Ciriaco (.400 BA, 10 RBIs) leads the way. The team also hopes newcomers Victor Ceda, Ian Lameira and Jake Six will make impacts. The Canucks have a fundamentally strong group at each position.

PISCATAWAY

Coach: Rob Stoddard, fourth seasonLast year: 7-15 overall, 4-9 Blue DivisionKey Losses: Michael Wojcik (C/IF); Mahir Shah (P/1B)Roster: Kenny Barksdale (Sr., INF/RHP); Troy Bell (Sr., OF); Gavin Bendix (Sr., INF/RHP); Bobby Bressler (Sr., INF/RHP); Justin Brown (Fr., INF); Jason Hoffman (Jr., OF/LHP); Troy Hutchinson (Sr., C/INF); Braydan Irovando (Jr., C); Jason Mann (Fr., C/OF); Taksh Patel (Sr., INF); Jaden Peace (Sr., OF/RHP); Dom Summonte (So., INF); Riley Wingate (Jr., OF/RHP)Outlook: The Chiefs are looking to bounce back from key injuries last season as they roll out a lineup of seven seniors, the most under Stoddard in his four-year tenure as head coach. Piscataway is looking to ride the momentum of an upset win over No. 13-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas as the No. 20-seed in the GMC Tournament. As a bonus, they get back senior aces Bobby Bressler and Kenny Barksdale from injuries. The duo combined for 50% of the team’s innings as freshmen and sophomores, but both did not throw a single pitch in the 2023 season. Bressler, who only played 2B last season with a UCL injury, made All-Blue Division (.435 AVG, 30 H, 15 RBIs, 14 2B, 20 R, 14 BB). His 14 doubles set a single-season school record that stood since 2013. Barksdale, who was completely shut down in 2023 following ACL surgery, is looking to return to the mound, where he led the team in wins (5) and strikeouts (52) in 46 innings as a sophomore in 2022. Last season’s ace Jaden Peace only transitioned to pitching last season to fill the void and had a breakout spring. He went the distance in four of his five wins, tossing 44 innings with 46 strikeouts while holding a 4.14 ERA. The senior is also the team’s tone-setter from the leadoff spot (.324 AVG, 23 H, 10 RBIs, 7 2B, 2 3B, 18 R, 11 BB). While Piscataway will rely on pitching to win games, look for returning offensive production from seniors Troy Bell (.333 AVG, 24 H) and Troy Hutchinson (17 H, 14 RBIs), juniors Riley Wingate (.277 AVG, 18 H) and Jason Hoffman (15 H), as well as sophomore infielder Dom Summonte (11 H, 13 BB). Freshman Justin Brown also ooks to make an instant impact on offense for the Chiefs.

SPOTSWOOD

Coach: Glenn Fredricks, 19th seasonLast year: 21-8 overall, 10-2 Blue Division Key losses: Dylan Kartelias (OF), Jackson Walsh (RHP), Casey Cumiskey (SS/RHP), Chris Bottiglieri (C)Roster: Luc Acquaviva (Sr., RHP); Mason Bitalla (Sr., C); Gavin Cahill (Sr., OF); Breckyn DeAngelis (Sr., OF/RHP); Coleman Frost (Sr., LHP); Jack Louro (Sr., RHP); Colin Pfeiffer (Sr., 1B/C); Mateo Rivera (Sr., UTL/RHP); Jack Bicsko (Jr., LHP); William Buchan (Jr., INF/RHP); Carter Cumiskey (Jr., 1B/LHP); Stephen Henits (Jr., OF); Shawn Lennan (Jr., 3B); John Lubin (Jr., OF/RHP); Joe O’Halloran (Jr., OF); Tyler Oleksy (Jr., LHP); Brandon Rivera (Jr., C/UTL); Ryan Orth (So., INF/RHP); Michael Palumbo (So., OF); Gavin Romeo (So., 2B); Sebby Saracino (So., OF/RHP)Outlook: The Chargers enter 2024 as the defending Blue Division champions, having gone wire to wire in first place last season. The team won 21 games and advanced to the tough Central Group 2 bracket final for the first time since winning it in 2010. To return to that game, this year’s edition must replace 15 wins on the mound, 88 innings pitched and the offensive production of record-setting shortstop Casey Cumiskey. Cumiskey, now at Seton Hall, led all of New Jersey with 60 hits a season ago. While it won’t be easy, the younger Chargers will be ready to step up with six returning freshmen and sophomores who saw regular time last year. The Charger pitching will get much-welcomed help with the return of Luc Acuqaviva, Will Buchan and Jack Louro. The trio will join Seton Hall commit Carter Cumiskey (1.91 ERA, 72 K in 44 IP), senior Breckyn DeAngelis (2.92 ERA in 12 IP), Ryan Orth and junior Tyler Oleksy on this year’s staff. On offense, the young but experienced lineup should produce runs. DeAngelis (.302 BA, 31 runs), Carter Cumiskey (.382, 4 HR, 31 RBIs), Sebastian Saracino, Orth (.414 BA, 29 ABs) and Shawn Lennan return a good amount of production and experience. The offense will need to jell quickly for run production, and the pitching staff has big shoes to fill coming off of a season which saw seven shutouts and 11 games of one run or less.

ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

Coach: Tom D’Agostino, eighth season Last year: 15-11 overall, 8-4 Blue DivisionKey Losses: Ricky Del Rio (P); Artis Ray (SS); Christian Scaff (INF)Roster: Ray Nault (Sr., UTL/RHP); Chris Fogarile (Sr., 2B); Gavin Sansone (Sr., OF/ LHP); Zach Diaz (Sr., INF); Benjie Pabon (Sr., RHP); Pete Fizer (Sr., C); Jon Misura (Sr., LHP); Declan DiCarlo (Jr., INF/RHP); Reed Kerstetter (Jr., OF); Donovan Epps (Jr., OF/RHP); Will Bethea (Jr., INF); Jack Valenzuela (Jr., INF/OF); Julian Benetiz (Jr., INF); Lucas Cassino (Jr., OF); Louis Rizzolo (So., OF/ LHP); Zack Hebbe (So., RHP); Adrian Sanchez (So., C); Hunter Krainski (So., 3B); Nikash Patel (Fr., SS/RHP); Chris Gutauskas (Fr., C); Liam Buchan (Fr., C)Outlook: The Trojans are coming off a successful 15-11 season that saw them qualify for the Non-Public B tournament. With the graduation of staff ace and team inning leader Ricky Del Rio (39 innings), the Trojans will turn to LIU signee Gavin Sansone (4-0, 2.15 ERA, 32 Ks) to anchor the staff. The arms will also feature sophomore Louis Rizzolo (3.96 ERA, 21 Ks), senior Jon Misura (East Stroudsburg commit, 3-3, 1.15 ERA, 44 Ks) and freshman Nikash Patel. Seniors Benjie Pabon (Georgian Court), Ray Nault (RVCC) and junior Declan DiCarlo will be called upon to provide quality innings. Patel and DiCarlo will help replace the 30 RBIs the Trojans lost with the graduation of shortstop Artis Ray. Junior Donovan Epps (23 SBs) returns to patrol centerfield and set the table in the leadoff stop. Hunter Krainski, Pete Fizer, Will Bethea and Adrian Sanchez will balance out the lineup for the Trojans. Zach Diaz hit .354 with 16 RBIs and had a 2.66 ERA with 31 strikeouts on the mound.

SOUTH RIVER

Coach: Michael Lepore Jr., 27th seasonLast year: 14-9 overall, 8-4 Blue DivisionKey losses: Joseph Lepore (OF), Gavin Franco (OF/P), Andrew Steffaro (1B), Jaiden Rodriguez (DH), Matt Marques (OF)Roster: Julius Rosado (Jr., SS/RHP); Parker Lane (Sr., 3B/RHP); James Zsorey (Jr., INF/RHP); Sebastian Susinno (Sr., 2B/RHP); Noah Borero (So., C); Brendan Lell (So., OF/RHP); Dylan Pasion (So., OF); Felipe Granadiero (So., 1B); Travis Maloney (Fr., OF/RHP); Brendan Lell (So., RHP); Aiden Olave (So., OF); Josh Almeida (So., OF); Tyler Riviera (So., 2B); Nick Guido (Fr., OF); Sebastian Nunez (Fr., OF); Brayden Link (Fr., DH); Edsel Pirres (So., OF)Outlook: With only 16 players in the program, everyone is expected to contribute in some way. The Rams do have experience coming back, including the dynamic Julius Rosado. The junior Rutgers commit is on pace to break every offensive career record in school history and plays a slick shortstop. He hit .515 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs last season along with 11 doubles and 41 runs. He’s also a quality pitcher (3.40 ERA, 68 Ks in 45 1/3 IP). He’s joined by James Zsorey (3.07 ERA in 43 1/3 IP) and Brendan Lell (2.42 ERA, 24 Ks in 26 IP). Parker Lane returns after a strong junior year (.360 BA, 20 RBIs, 18 runs) and is 30 hits away from reaching 100 in his career. Noah Borero has been solid behind the plate in the preseason as the newcomers are getting ready for varsity action.

Gold Division

EAST BRUNSWICK MAGNET

Coach: Todd Sak, 16th seasonLast year: 12-10 overall, 6-5 Gold DivisionKey losses: Scott Pede (SS/P); Ryan DellaFave (CF/P); Aiden Roswnthal (3B/P); Mike Rizzi (OF/P); Gabe Werts (P)Roster: Michael Zappola (Sr., 2B/RHP); Tommy O'Neil (Jr., CF/LHP); Nomar Carreras (Jr., SS/RHP); Jack Clements (So., SS/RHP); Matt Murphy (Sr., C); Anthony Bienvenue (So., 3B/RHP); Joe Squillante (Sr., 1B/P); Stephan Zappola (So., OF/P); Liam Andre (So., OF); Chase Myers (So., C/OF); Charles Misura (Fr., INF/RHP); Braeden Cullen (Fr., 2B/3B); Noah Molina (Jr., OF/P)Outlook: The Tigers lose seven seniors – five starters – with a young team, but the good news is they have five returning starters. That gives them a talented base with ample pitching depth. EB Magnet sports three seniors and two juniors with the rest of the team all freshmen and sophomores. The group of young talent should only get better as the season progresses as the Tigers look to again contend in the division. They have about half a dozen pitchers, which will keep them competitive. One highlight is they’re going to Cooperstown to play South Amboy. Jack Clements (.359 BA, 20 RBI, 18 runs), Matt Murphy (.302 BA, 13 RBI) and Michael Zappola (.293 BA, 10 RBI) are among the top returning players.

CARTERET

Coach: Dan Morvay, sixth seasonLast year: 17-8 overall, 9-1 Gold DivisionKey losses: Justin Oritz (Sr., CF/P), Jhoalvin Ledesma (Sr., SS/P)Roster: Justin Santana (Sr., INF/RHP); James Rodriguez (Sr., C/1B); Eric Thompson (Jr., OF/LHP); Nick Kee (Jr., 2B/RHP); Rashad Bennett (Jr., OF); Drexler Rodriguez (Jr., C/3B); Jared Nelan (Jr., INF); Jossue Torres (Sr., OF); Marc Schiraldo (So., INF/RHP); Lucas Rivera (Fr., INF/OF/RHP); Paul Verbout (So., INF); Jah’Kai Murray (So., INF); Jayden Henriguez (Fr., INF); Joniel Martinez (Fr., 1B/RHP); Miles Ferreiras (Fr., C/INF); Jorge Agosto (Sr., OF); Jeovany Rivera Penalbert (Sr., INF); Luis Hernandez (Fr., OF/LHP)Outlook: After rebuilding the program over the last few years, the Ramblers put everything together in 2023 and hit on all of their pre-season goals – winning the Gold Division, as well as hosting a GMC and state tournament game for the first time in over a decade. Now, the team looks to continue to build on last year’s successful season. Carteret, though, will have to find ways to deal with the loss of both their starting SS and RF – Jhoalvin Ledesma (.355 BA, 14 RBIs, No. 2 hitter) and Justin Ortiz (16 RBIs). The Ramblers, which put up 6.8 runs a game, do have loads of offensive firepower up and down the lineup. That includes seniors and Georgian Court commits – who each hit .358 – James Rodriguez (team-highs with 29 RBIs and 2 HRs and 27 BBs in 25 games) and Justin Santana (team-leading 29 hits, 14 SBs, 28 runs). Talented juniors include Rashad Bennett (.328 BA, 21 runs, 10 SBs), Nick Kee (.292, 4 doubles, 4 triples) and Eric Thompson (.279, 24 runs, 12 SBs). The Ramblers look to fill in the missing gaps with returning catcher Drexler Rodriguez, utility man Jared Nelan and Josue Torres (OF). The newcomers who are thrusted into the action include sophomore Marc Schiraldo and freshmen Lucas Rivera, JoJo Martinez and Luis Hernandez. On the pitching front, the Ramblers return a trio of key starters. Kee (9-2, 11 ER, 76 Ks in 59 1/3 IP) has a five-pitch repertoire with a fastball that sits in the mid-80s. Santana posted a 3.53 ERA and struck out over 1.5 batters an inning (66 Ks in 39 2/3 IP). Thompson went 4-4 and posted a 3.20 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 35 innings. Newcomers to the staff will feature sophomore Marc Schiraldo and freshmen Luis Hernadez, Lucas Rivera and Joniel “JoJo” Martinez. The Ramblers are looking to not only repeat but build and grow on last year's season.

NEW BRUNSWICK

Coach: Nico Vargas, first seasonLast year: 1-12 overall, 0-9 Gold DivisionKey losses: Wilmer Martinez (C); Amaury Recio (P/1B); Andrew Martinez (UTL); Peter De La Cruz (3B)Roster: Ryan Diaz (So., 3B/C); Jose Encarnacion Ogando (Fr., OF/RHP); José Daniel Fernandez (Jr., OF); Yeuri Garcia (Fr., RHP/UTL); Jean Guzman (Fr., OF); Devin Heuston (Jr., OF/INF); Kelvin Heuston (Fr., MIF/RHP); Eric Peralta (Jr., C); Ronaldy Peralta Duran (Jr., INF/RHP); Elkin Reyes (Fr., RHP/OF); Alexander Rodriguez (Jr., INF); Kenneth Rodriguez (So., OF); Jaylen Thomas (Jr., RHP/UTL); Armani Torres (Fr., RHP); Frankely Torres (Jr., 1B/DH)Outlook: The Zebras boast a balanced roster featuring experienced upperclassmen and a talented trio of freshmen. Led by juniors Ronaldy Peralta Duran (.316), Devin Heuston and Jaylen Thomas, the team will rely heavily on these upperclassmen to lead the charge and make significant contributions on the field. Three freshmen complement the team's veteran presence. Elkin Reyes and Yeuri Garcia will handle a bulk of the pitching responsibilities, while Kelvin Heuston looks to add depth on the mound and provide sure-handed defense up the middle. New head coach Nico Vargas is no stranger to the GMC. He played at St. Joseph’s and helped the Falcons to a GMCT title in 2006 and sectional crown in 2007. He started his coaching career as an assistant at Roselle Catholic in 2017-2018. He then was the head coach at St. Mary’s The Assumption High School in Elizabeth for a season before the school closed. Vargas spent the past four seasons as the freshmen coach at St. Peter’s Prep.

SOUTH AMBOY

Coach: Dan Poulsen, 12th seasonLast Year: 13-7 overall, 7-3 Gold DivisionKey Losses: Gabriel Albarran (OF); Christian Smith (OF/P); Steven Evanski (P/SS); Matthew Stempinski (P)Roster: Jeremy Vasquez (Jr., OF/LHP); Ben Hernandez (Sr., INF/C); Diego Colon (So., INF/RHP); Micah Nemeth (Fr., RHP/INF/OF); Benjamin Smith (Jr., INF/RHP); Giro Castaldo (Sr., UTL/RHP); Weslyn Sanchez (Sr., INF/C/RHP); Daniel Evanski (Jr., OF); Joseph Foreman (So., C); Isaiah Mercado (Sr., RHP); Robert Senape Jr. (Fr., INF/OF/P); Nigel Johnson (Jr., INF/C); Robert Conklin (Fr., RHP); Aaron Murray (Jr., OF); Charles Murray (Sr., OF); Jadiel Vasquez (So., OF); Vaughn Pelkey (Jr., INF); Ken Kokoszka (So., OF); Chris Lopez (Jr., OF); Geremy Valdez (Jr., OF); Jadiel Oliveras (Fr., OF)Outlook: The Governors finished second in the division last season. However, they graduated four seniors who carried the team on offense and on the mound. They include aces Steven Evanski, who had a sparkling 0.93 ERA and issued just seven walks in 30 innings, and Matt Stempinski, who threw a playoff gem. Christian Smith’s absence will also be felt as he tossed 20-plus innings on the season. Now, the Governors return just 30 innings and hope to rebuild quickly with help from seniors Isaiah Mercado and Giro Castaldo, junior Ben Smith and freshmen Micah Nemeth, Robert Senape and Robert Conklin. Offensively, the Guvs graduated 50 hits and 30 RBIs from Evanski, Albarran, Smith and Stempinski. South Amboy does have some potent hitters back. Senior Ben Hernandez led the team with 32 hits last season, and sophomore Diego Colon led the way with a .449 avg and a .591 OBP, tallying 22 hits and 17 walks in his freshman campaign. Jeremy Vasquez returns after finishing third on the team with a .436 batting average (24 hits). Weslyn Sanchez, Ben Smith, Daniel Evanski and newcomer Micah Nemeth are poised to become impact guys.

Silver Division

DUNELLEN

Coach: Connor Lindsay, first season Last year: 9-9 over and 7-1 Silver DivisionKey losses: Corbin Evans, (C/P); Myles Haradda (C)Roster: Jake Manna (Sr., INF/RHP); Benson Nguyen (Sr., OF); Viktor Arocho (Sr., OF); Nick Ciccolella (Sr., 1B); Ryan Hutchins (Jr., RHP/UTL); Danny Watts (Jr., RHP/UTL); Mark Stein (Jr., OF/LHP); Luke Petterson (Jr., 1B/C); Luke Shealy (Jr., INF/DH); Michael Dow (So., OF/P); Juanluis Rodriguez (So., SS/2B); Jackson Portik (So., C/INF); Jameal Davis (So., OF); Cole Mayer (Fr., INF/P); Kristhan Roman Lopez (Fr., 1B/LHP); Patrick McDonald (Fr., C)Outlook: Dunellen seems primed to compete with Piscataway Magnet, once again, for the division title after the two were co-champions last season. The Destroyers are optimistic with returning all but two starters from last year. Jake Manna, Ryan Hutchins, Danny Watts and Mark Stein are poised to dominate both on the mound and in the batting order. Hutchins is projected to be the leadoff hitter hit after a scorching .466 average with a team-high 21 RBIs and 29 runs. Stein (.352 BA) and Watts (.391 BA) are projected to hit in the middle. On the mound, Manna, Hutchins (3.59 ERA, 38 K’s) and Watts are likely to be the top three in the rotation with Stein in the mix. Cole Mayer (P) and Kristhan Roman (P/1B/DH) are rookies looking to make an impact. Michael Dow and Juanluis Rodriguez are two of the better defensive players on the team and are expected to fill in somewhere in the starting lineup. The biggest question marks in the preseason are who’s going to be the third outfielder and the catcher after both backstops graduated. A couple infielders have the ability to move into the outfield with Jameal Davis and Benson Nguyen also in the mix. Luke Pettersen is making the transition from first base to catcher, while Jackson Portik seems likely to get some innings behind the plate, as well. Connor Lindsay started coaching at Dunellen last season as an assistant and took over as the skipper for the last several games. He played at New Egypt and then pitched at Montclair State. Lindsay has several years experience of coaching travel and American Legion teams.

HIGHLAND PARK

Coach: Chris Brzozowski, first seasonLast year: 5-13 overall, 3-5 Silver DivisionKey losses: Ralph Tawil (INF/RHP)Roster: Oscar Caraballo Duran (Sr., RF); David Cenci (Sr., LF); Christopher Chenard (Jr., 3B/RHP); Doran Crocco (Fr., SS/CF/RHP); Ahmad Ghumman (Fr., P); Jowuan Keyes (Sr., OF); Seamus MacKinnon (Jr., C/RHP); Ariel Mejia-Meza (Jr., OF); Aidan O’Connell (Sr., INF/RHP); Connor Roth-Zappo (Jr., C/LF); Owen Roth-Zappo (Jr., 1B); Daniel Sanchez (Sr., C/OF); Seth Shapiro (Jr., 2B); Luca Sheldon (Sr., SS/2B/RHP); Harold Solomon (Fr., INF/P); Finn Voorhees (Jr., OF); Vincent Wolf (Sr., DH/P)Outlook: After a young Owls roster finished third in the Silver Division last season, the team retains almost all of its lineup and is looking to make big strides in 2024. They feature four All-Division picks. Junior All-Division catcher Seamus MacKinnon leads the way after hitting .469. Returning four-year starters and All-Division players Luca Sheldon and Aidan O’Connell join him as building blocks and are expected to make strong contributions in all three phases. The duo combined for 66 strikeouts from the mound and 30 hits from the batter's box last spring. Filling out the infield is All-Division pick Owen Roth-Zappo at first base and Chris Chenard (3B), who showed improvement throughout last season and is looking to have a big year. The Owls also feature returning starting outfielders Connor Roth-Zappo and David Cenci, joined by an exciting class of newcomers in Dorian Crocco, Oscar Caraballo-Duran and Harry Solomon. The roster is filled with depth, including returning catcher/outfielder Danny Sanchez, second baseman Seth Shapiro and designated hitter Vincent Wolfe. The Owls are hoping to make a big splash in their first season under head coach Chris Brzozowski, an assistant the past four seasons. They have one of the largest rosters in the program’s recent history.

PERTH AMBOY MAGNET

Coach: Steven Wieczorek, second seasonLast year: 2-19-1 overall, 2-6-1 in Silver DivisionKey losses: Dariyon Gonzalez (RF)Roster: Justin Abreu (Sr., LHP/1B /RF/DH); JohnKelly Jimenez (Sr., RHP/1B); Nelson Concepcion (Sr., RHP/SS); Jean Felipe (Jr., C); Zachary Lenardo (Jr., 3B/1B); Nieves Isaiah (Jr., RHP/CF); Edwin Ortega (Jr., DH: Jerek Santiago (Jr., RHP/SS/OF); Jackelvis Nunez (So., RHP/3B/OF); Israel Sanchez (So., 2B/SS); Trebor Forbes (So., C/OF); Jonathan Banko (Fr., RHP/LF/CF); Edward Urena (Fr., RHP/2B/RF); Jordan Barnes (RHP/2B/3B)Outlook: The Patriots look to continue to grow this year, with all but two starters returning. The pitching staff returns the crafty Nelson Concepcion, who had 58 strikeouts in 36 innings last season, along with hard-throwing Johnkelly Jimenez and Jerek Santiago. Rookies Jonathan Banko and Jordan Barnes look strong in the preseason and will be part of the starting rotation. Justin Abreu, the team’s only left-handed pitcher, projects to be a reliable reliever. The outfield features the speedy Isaiah Nieves (team-high 23 SBs). The infield showcases power hitter Zachary Lenardo at third base; a senior-freshman duo in the middle with Concepcion (SS) and Jordan Barnes (2B); Jimenez at first base and Jean Felipe Lozada (team-high .295 BA) behind the plate. Utility players Israel Sanchez, Jerek Santiago and Justin Abreu will fill the defensive gaps depending on who is pitching.

PISCATAWAY MAGNET

Coach: Greg Sampson, first season Last Year: 10-6 overall, 7-1 Silver DivisionKey Losses: Nomar Carreras (SS/RHP); Jayden Hunter (C); Ja'kir Waites (OF)Roster: Matthew Baez (Sr., 3B/RHP); Elvis Rodriguez (Fr., OF/RHP); Victor Rodriguez (Sr., C/OF); Luis Rodriguez (Sr., OF); Jason Johnathan (Sr., OF); Colten Lyerly (Fr., C/3B/2B/RHP); Jacob Lyerly (Sr., SS/RHP); Kyle Malchinodi (Fr., 1B/C/RHP); Johnny Cachon (So., OF); Adam Morales (Fr., C/OF); Francisco Pereira (Sr., 2B); Elijah Rivera (Sr., LF); Rodhan Carballo (Fr., 2B/2B/RHP); Jurodh Carballo (Jr., 2B/SS/RHP); Derek Scotillo (Fr., OF/1B/LHP); Joseph Cardona (Sr., OF)Outlook: The Raiders should contend with Dunellen for the division pennant after sharing the title last season. For one, they have a large returning senior class with plenty of talent. The captains of Mathew Baez (1.52 ERA, 58 Ks and .325 BA) and Jacob Lyerly (3.20 ERA, 37 K’s and a .553 BA with a team-high 28 RBIs) look to have another big year. Jurodh Carballo (.333 BA, 20 Runs, 20 SBs) is again the table-setter from the leadoff spot. The team welcomes a large freshman class that will contribute. Colten Lyerly, Jacob’s brother, is the ultimate utility player, and Kyle Malchinodi and Derek Scotillo will also chip in on the mound and at the plate. Greg Sampson takes over as the head coach with previous coaching experience at Metuchen and Edison. WARDLAW-HARTRIDGE

Coach: Chris Parisi, fourth seasonLast year: 1-14-1 overall, 0-8-1 Silver DivisionKey losses: Aryan Nair (RHP transfer)Roster: Bobby Bao (Fr., UTL); Al-Hammed Bell (Jr., RHP/OF/3B); Jason Cheng (Jr., OF); Dylan Coleman (Sr., OF); Luca DiGirolamo (Jr., OF/C); Sam Faust (Jr., 2B/RHP); Marcus Hamiltion (Sr., OF); Ryan Maciorowski (So., RHP/SS); Nate Mitchell (So., C); Cian Nicholls (Jr., 1B/OF); Jack Singer (Sr., OF); Ish Signh (Sr., OF); Luke Tan (Sr., RHP/INF); Shingyu Wang (Jr., OF); Mackias Ysaac (So., RHP/INF); Aron Zhong (Fr., UT) Outlook: The good thing about having a young team is they gain valuable experience and come back that much more seasoned. The Rams didn’t graduate any seniors from last year and only lost a freshman transfer. They will rely on All-Division players Luke Tan (.371 BA) and Cian Nicholls (.333). Sophomores Ryan Maciorowski and Mackias Ysaac will carry the pitching staff and throw to sophomore catcher Nate Mitchell, expected to take a leap forward this year. Al-Hammed Bell is another player who has worked to improve in the offseason. The trio of sophomores are projected to be the core of the batting order, as well.
