Baseball: Coldwater sweeps Pennfield, Tekonsha scores in bunches in sweep of North Adams

COLDWATER – The Coldwater Cardinal varsity baseball team blasted their way to a two-game sweep over Pennfield on Tuesday, winning by scores of 9-2 and 6-1.

Coldwater out hit Pennfield 10-5 in game one and raced out to a 9-1 lead after four innings. The Coldwater pitching stymied the Pennfield offense the rest of the way, as the Cardinals took the 9-2 win.

Evan Porter took the win on the mound for Coldwater after throwing seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Brady Massey, Drake Thornton, and Kayden Roby all had two hits in the game, while Porter and Massey both drove in two runs each. Lucas Wischmeyer scored three runs in the game.

Game two saw freshman Dayton Ennis hold Pennfield to just a single run in seven innings pitched as the Cardinals defeated the Panthers 6-1. Ennis gave up four hits and one run in the seven-inning affair, walking two and striking out three.

Massey led the way at the plate, finishing 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs while Eddie Pool added a pair of hits and one run scored. Drake Thornton added a double in the win.

With the victory Coldwater improves to 10-10 overall on the year.

Tekonsha gets offensive in sweep of North Adams

TEKONSHA – The Tekonsha Indians and North Adams-Jerome Rams got together Tuesday night and put up runs in bunches, as offense was the name of the game in their SCAA doubleheader. In the end it was Tekonsha taking the two wins, sweeping North Adams with wins of 15-12 and 24-6.

In game one Tekonsha out hit North Adams 11-5 while also taking advantage of six Rams errors and eight walks to take the 15-12 victory.

Marco Sanchez had a perfect game at the plate, going 4 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Ashton White and Jacob Bailey had two hits each with Bailey knocking out a double. Blake Griffith added a triple and an RBI while Emmitt Blashfield drove in two runs.

Dylan Griffith took the win on the mound for Tekonsha, throwing three innings in the start, giving up three hits and 11 runs, nine earned, with nine walks and five strikeouts.

Bo Begley secured the save, throwing three innings in relief, allowing two hits and one run with one walk and two strikeouts.

Game two saw the Tekonsha offense explode for 24 runs on 17 hits, as the Indians won 24-6. Tekonsha out hit North Adams 17-3 in the win

Emmitt Blashfield had a huge game for Tekonsha, taking the win on the mound after throwing two innings, allowing three hits and six runs, three earned, with five walks and four strikeouts. At the plate Blashfield had an even bigger game, going 3 for 3 with a double and a triple with two RBIs and four runs scored.

Marco Sanchez, Dylan Griffith, Bo Begley, and C. Emison all had two hits each, with Griffith adding a double.

Blake Griffith finished the game at a perfect 4 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.

With the win Tekonsha improves to 6-6 on the season.
