Four-time champion Pope John baseball earned the top seed in the 14th Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament on Monday.

Sparta was awarded the second seed. Both teams received double byes to the quarterfinals.

No. 3 High Point, No. 4 Hunterdon Central, No. 5 North Hunterdon, No. 6 Phillipsburg and No. 7 Warren Hills, all received first-round byes.

The first round of the 19-team tournament must be played by May 1. The second round will be played by May 4. The quarterfinals will be on May 8. Semifinals on May 11. All those games will be hosted by the higher seed.

The final is at 4 p.m. on May 15 at Phillipsburg High School as part of a twin-bill with the softball championship game.

Pope John is the only Sussex County school to win the baseball title since the tournament expanded in 2010. The Lions won in 2011, 2017 and 2019.

Three-time defending champion Hunterdon Central has the most HWS titles with seven and won the inaugural championship in 2010. North Hunterdon is third with two titles and Phillipsburg last won in 2012.
