Bartlesville's Whataburger opening delayed due to construction. How soon will it open?

The highly anticipated opening of Bartlesville's first Whataburger location, initially slated for Dec. 10, remains a bustling work site.

But don't worry, Whataburger aficionados, Christmas isn't canceled. It's only delayed.

"I can't give that exact date yet," said Theresa Estep, director of development and purchasing of WAB Venture, which owns several Whataburger franchises in Oklahoma and Arkansas. "Still finishing up some items. It will be before year-end, though."

Whataburger, the Texas-based fast-food chain famous for its made-to-order burgers and iconic orange-and-white-striped roofs, is being built at 1350 S.E. Washington Blvd. The site was previously home to the Hunan restaurant and, as Mayor Dale Copeland reminisced, the former Pannekoeken Huis.

The arrival of Whataburger in Bartlesville was facilitated by a $119,000 incentive package from the Bartlesville Development Authority and City Council. With over 950 locations across the U.S., the chain is known for its cult-like following, particularly in Texas and 13 other southern states.

WAB Ventures selected Bartlesville for its latest venture because of its strategic location near Tulsa.

"We are excited to be coming to Bartlesville," said Estep, "It's a great town."

Despite these setbacks, the community's anticipation remains high. Many residents eagerly await the chance to enjoy Whataburger's famous offerings without leaving their hometown.

The exact opening date remains a mystery, but the promise of a Whataburger meal in Bartlesville before year's end could well keep the excitement alive.
