Bartlesville-area basketball roundup: Nowata girls win, boys lose against Rejoice

The Nowata Lady Ironmen remain in the championship bracket of the Ty Hewitt Memorial Tournament after a big win over a much larger team Tuesday evening. Nowata defeated Rejoice Christian 44-38.

Both teams traded baskets through the first three quarters, but the Lady Ironmen were able to take the lead late in the fourth quarter with some timely turnovers.

“We struggled with Rejoice’s size for a bit,” said Lady Ironmen head coach Thad Hewitt. “We made some free throws down the stretch to secure the win.”

Top scorers for the Lady Ironmen included Jordyn Ashley with 15 points, Trailee Watson with 13 points and NaDean Stamps with 11 points.

In the other girl’s Tuesday game, Chelsea defeated Coffeyville 53-50

The Nowata Ironmen fell to Rejoice Christian 77-49. Kaleb Bashford and Bullen Spencer both scored 12 points for the Ironmen.

In the Copan tournament, the Copan Hornets, as do the Barnsdall Panthers, remain in the hunt for the championship. On the girl’s side, South Coffeyville is alive in the championship bracket.

Tuesday’s girl’s results included Prue defeating Barnsdall, 58-36, while South Coffeyville beat CVD, 48-40.

On the boy’s side, CVD defeated South Coffeyville, 56-18 and Barnsdall beat Prue 60-33.
