Despite their final record of 3-13-1, the Detroit Lions showed some promising signs of growth in 2021. Franchise legend Barry Sanders agrees.

On “The Pat McAfee Show” today, Sanders was asked about the feistiness that the Lions showed under first-year head coach Dan Campbell. Sanders referenced the team’s three wins in the final month-and-a-half of the season, including victories over the Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.

“We saw a lot of fight. We saw guys playing their hearts out to the very end. That’s what you like to see,” Sanders said. “I think there’s definitely some positive things we can take from this season.”

Sanders added that the next step is to find out which players will be with the team moving forward.

After starting 0-10-1, the Lions closed with a 3-3 finish in their final six games, which should serve as a positive springboard into the offseason.

Even in Detroit’s first 11 games, while the team did not register a win, there were close losses to the Ravens, Browns, Bears and Vikings that seemed to show progress under Campbell. Now comes the hard part: building on that culture that has been established and turning it into a winning team.
