We’ve seen plenty of bob haircuts in the past that were super sleek, stylish, and had people talking. Between the layered lob that gave you a refreshed look without cutting too much off, to the shorter A-line cut that was flattering on so many people, this medium-length haircut never seems to fail.

Now, there is a new bob haircut trending with a slightly modernized look that is more bouncy, flirty, and perfect for when you need an updated do.

What Is the Baroque Bob Haircut?

“The Baroque bob is the new ‘it bob’ of 2024 for sure,” says Heather Rutherford, stylist at The LABoratory a ruby devine salon in Alexandria, Va. “It’s similar to the French bob, but instead of cute, messy, hand-tousled hair, it’s all about polished curls and waves. Think Downton Abbey, with their ornate finger curls, but brushed out smooth and some 90's volume.”

The length for this bob typically rests right above the shoulders, and the cut is blunt with lots of layers for volume and texture so it’s soft and sassy. Similar to classic art and architecture of the 17th century where the word "Baroque” hails, this particular bob has a very ornate, sculpted finish.

Who Is the Baroque Bob Haircut For?

What makes the bob haircut so popular is that they can look good on a variety of face shapes. The new Baroque bob is no different, however, when it comes to hair texture it may be best for “medium to thick hair,” says Rutherford, but that doesn’t necessarily mean other hair types can’t work. Rutherford explains this haircut can also work with fine hair if using the right body-building mousses.

Since this style is all about movement and volume, ask your hair stylist for a bob with layers when going for this cut. It’s up to you and your stylist on the length, which can be cut along the shoulders or shorter to the chin. Be sure to come with a photo or two for inspiration, and your stylist can explain the best way to achieve this look for your hair type and face shape.

How to Style the Baroque Bob Haircut at Home

The Baroque bob is all about the styling behind the cut. Rutherford suggests starting by blow drying at the root with a blow-dry cream or mousse to get some volume and fluffy texture.

After blow drying, reach for the curlers to make this haircut really pop. “I think curlers are a girl's best friend with this one,” says Rutherford. She also recommends using a curling iron for the same effect. “Roll the curlers or curling iron towards the face instead of away for a slightly more vintage feel,” she suggests.

Then, brush out the curls with a brush or your fingers to achieve a soft finish. While you can keep your part down the middle, Rutherford says a side part works for this look, too.
