British banking giant Barclays is shutting down its call center operations in Over-The-Rhine by September, according to a disclosure to Cincinnati and Ohio officials.

A total of 252 workers will lose their jobs, starting July 20 and ending within a two-week period of Sept. 13, the bank said in a letter to Mayor Aftab Pureval and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The letter was part of the bank's WARN notice required by the U.S. Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988.

The financial institution said the affected workers were not unionized and won't be offered positions elsewhere in the company. The company did not provide a reason for the call center's closure.

Barclays did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
