Barbie's America Ferrera lands next lead movie role
Barbie star America Ferrera has landed her next movie role in The Lost Bus.
The now Oscar-nominated actress will star alongside Matthew McConaughey in the upcoming film, which is directed by Captain Phillips' Paul Greengrass and written by Mare of Easttown's Brad Ingelsby.
According to Variety, The Lost Bus is based on Lizzie Johnson's book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, about the tragic 2018 California wildfires.

The fires stand as the deadliest in the state's history, claiming over 100 lives and destroying most of the town of Paradise.
The film will follow school teacher Mary Ludwig (Ferrera) and bus driver Kevin McKay (McConaughey), who lead a school bus full of young students through the fire to safety. Production is expected to begin this spring.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Ferrera will direct an adaptation of Erika Sánchez's novel I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter.
The story centres on Julia Reyes, a young girl whose dreams of becoming a famous writer clash with the traditional values of her Mexican immigrant parents.

Julia's parents wish she was more like her sister Olga, but when Olga tragically dies in an accident, Julia desperately tries to hold her family together while unravelling her sister's truth.
"Years ago, I fell in love with Erika L Sánchez's stunning novel, I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter," Ferrera said of the project."The depth, wit and searing intelligence of her writing, and her young Latina heroine, struck me to my core and left me wanting so much more.
"I am truly honoured and humbled to direct Linda Yvette Chávez's beautifully adapted screenplay. The opportunity to direct the work of these two incredibly talented Latina writers is a dream come true."
