Barbie star Hari Nef has revealed the emotional story of how she joined the movie.

The And Just Like That… actress was unveiled earlier this week as one of the many stars playing a variation of the Mattel doll in the upcoming live-action movie. She'll appear alongside producer-star Margot Robbie, Issa Rae (Insecure), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls), Kate McKinnon (SNL) and others.

Each Barbie has their own distinct personality, and Hari plays Doctor Barbie. Following her role being revealed, the actress and LGBTQ+ activist has shared how she nearly missed out on the movie.

Hari explained in a tweet that scheduling conflicts nearly prevented her from committing to Barbie, so she went directly to Margot Robbie to ask for the filming dates to be shuffled.

The actress shared a letter she wrote to Robbie to make her case, explaining how her group of trans-women friends started calling themselves "the dolls" because of their deep connection to Barbie.

"We call ourselves 'the dolls' in the face of everything we know we are, never will be, hope to be," Hari tweeted. "We yell the word because the word matters.

"And no doll matters more than Barbie."

Hari's powerful message clearly won over Margot, as she was able to make the filming situation work. Now, Hari has received support from co-stars and fans about the way she explained her connection to the doll.

"You are so undeniable as barbie i cannot wait for the world to see you," her Barbie co-star Simu Liu tweeted.

The long-awaited movie from Academy Award-nominated director Greta Gerwig is a topsy-turvy adventure in which Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) explore what it's like in the real world.

Barbie will be released in cinemas worldwide on July 21.
