Barbie and Oppenheimer are both Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes

Barbenheimer day has finally arrived as Barbie and Oppenheimer are now out in cinemas for us to enjoy.

A lot of people have already got plans to watch both movies together and the only question is in which order to watch them in. However, if you've only got time this weekend to watch one movie, you might turn to the reviews to make your mind up.

So we've delved into the reviews for Barbie and Oppenheimer to highlight which movie has the highest Rotten Tomatoes score.

Spoiler alert though, they've both received very strong reviews so the real winner is us.

Barbie reviews

At the time of writing, Barbie currently stands at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes from 231 reviews and is Certified Fresh.

"Life in plastic is fantastic indeed: Barbie is a sharp, hilarious and joy-contagious satire of gender roles where the famous Mattel doll," we wrote in the Digital Spy review — but we're not the only ones praising Greta Gerwig's new movie.

Time Out called it a "wonderfully fun watch", while The Independent hailed Barbie as "one of the most inventive, immaculately crafted and surprising mainstream films in recent memory" and Empire boldly stated that "life after Barbie will simply never be the same again".

Mashable found Barbie to be a "summer movie that has more depth than you might expect", and The Times called it "a gorgeous and fascinating mishmash".

Despite the strong praise, it isn't actually Gerwig's highest-rated movie on Rotten Tomatoes. That remains the near-perfect 99% rating for Lady Bird, followed by Little Women (95%), but Barbie could still climb higher.

But what about Oppenheimer?

Oppenheimer reviews

At the time of writing, Oppenheimer currently stands at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes from 225 reviews and is also Certified Fresh.

"It's an absorbing and spectacular watch first and foremost, but also one that provokes you to think about the big, weighty topics that arose from Oppenheimer changing the world," we wrote in the Digital Spy review, but again, we're not alone in praising Christopher Nolan's latest film.

The Telegraph compared the movie to "witnessing history itself being split", while Deadline hailed it as "the most important motion picture of 2023" and IGN said that it is "big, bold, and surprisingly intimate".

The Atlantic credited the "ambitious film" for presenting "a story from the past that feels knotted to so many present anxieties about nuclear annihilation".

Oppenheimer's 94% rating is impressive, tying it with Nolan's best ever rating for The Dark Knight's 94%.
