Bar customers snowed in for three days at UK pub after storm

Sorry folks, you can’t go home and you have to stay here.

Customers at the UK’s highest-altitude pub were snowed in over the weekend, after a night out turned into an endurance contest following a blizzard.

On Monday morning, the 61 people who stopped by the the Tan Hill Inn in Swaledale, about 270 miles north of London, on Friday night woke up to news that they would likely get to leave the bar that day.

After the storm blocked the three roads that lead to the pub with snow and downed power cables, the customers and staff passed the time doing karaoke, listening to an Oasis cover band — Noasis — that was originally booked for Friday night, watching movies and forming friendships.

Manager Nicola Townsend told the Associated Press the guests were “in really good spirits.”

“They’ve formed quite a friendship ... like a big family is the best way I can describe it,” she said. “One lady actually said ‘I don’t want to leave.’”

According to social media posts, the staff have worked continuously during the storm to keep the guests as comfortable as possible.

The Tan Hill Inn sits 1,732 feet above sea level.

“It’s a bit crazy,” co-owner Andrew Hields told CNN. However, he said the bar has contingency plans in place for weather events and always has extra food and fuel for generators on hand.

“We’re completely off grid anyway,” Hields said.

Elsewhere in England, the storm brought “horrendous” conditions with winds as high as 90 mph.
