The Banshees of Inisherin actress Kerry Condon has responded to a mistake that saw Carey Mulligan accidentally announced as a winner instead of her at the BAFTAs yesterday (February 19).

At the awards ceremony, Oscar-winning actor Troy Kotsur came on stage to present the Best Supporting Actress award, which Condon won. Condon's name was on the card, but the sign-language interpreter accidentally mistook her name for Mulligan's, and announced that to the audience.

Kotsur and his interpreter quickly rectified the error, and Condon was the only actress to get up to collect the award. As the (majority of the) BAFTAs is pre-recorded, this moment was edited to only show the correct announcement for its broadcast on the BBC.

Responding to the moment, Condon told The Mirror that she was initially surprised, but the slight hiccup didn't dampen her enjoyment of the moment.

"They called out Carey Mulligan and I was like: 'Oh my god what the f**k?'" she said. "But I don't care, I just won it. I'm so shocked, I can't believe I won. I'll be looking at this for the rest of my life."

Condon's Banshees co-star Barry Keoghan won the award for Supporting Actor, whilst scriptwriter and director Martin McDonagh won Best Original Screenplay, and the film itself won the award for Outstanding British Film (although the film is set in Ireland, it was created by the British Film4 Productions).
