Who's up

The winner of the Maui Invitational usually gets the "Maui bump" in the next edition of the AP Top 25 ranking. Count on Purdue climbing to No. 1 and probably snagging every available first-place vote. What the Boilermakers accomplished in Hawaii last week is impressive. They didn't just win the Maui Invitational. They won arguably the most loaded Maui Invitational in the history of the event with wins against No. 11 Gonzaga, No. 7 Tennessee and No. 4 Marquette. No "Maui bump" for Matt Painter's crew on our ballot, though. Purdue was already at the top.

Who's down

Creighton's status in the AP Top 25 won't take a complete nosedive, but getting absolutely throttled by Colorado State in the Hall of Fame Classic has poll consequences. The Bluejays and their allegedly top 10 offense managed just 48 points in their loss in the title game in Kansas City, Mo., and shot an extraordinary (for all the wrong reasons) 27.9 percent in the process. Two games on the road this week at Oklahoma State and Nebraska (the Cornhuskers are undefeated) should help decide if the first loss of the season was a fluke or a harbinger of similar struggles to come.

Who to watch

Florida Atlantic followed up its brutal home loss to Bryant by winning the ESPN Events Invitational with victories against Butler, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech on a semi-neutral court in Orlando. How the Owls handle a potentially tricky week at home in the Field of 68 Classic will be telling ahead of their Jimmy V Classic showdown with Illinois at Madison Square Garden. FAU plays Liberty (5 p.m. Thursday) and Charleston (5 p.m. Saturday) with both games airing on ESPNU. Liberty is undefeated with wins of note against Furman, Wichita State and Vermont.
