Balcony sways during crowded Gunna show, Michigan video shows. ‘Anxiety watching this’

A viral video from a Gunna concert in Michigan has left many concerned, but officials say there is nothing to worry about.

In the video shared on the rapper’s Instagram account, the balcony of the Fox Theatre in Detroit appeared to be bouncing up and down as fans dance during the Monday, May 6, show.

Many people questioned if the venue was safe.

“They need to check the stability of that balcony,” one commenter said. “So many people could get hurt or even die.”

“It’s giving lawsuit,” another commenter said.

”My anxiety watching this,” a third wrote.

Others likened the video to the scene at the Astroworld Festival in 2021, when 10 people were crushed to death during a Travis Scott performance.

At least one of the top comments suggested the balcony was meant to sway. According to Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, which operates Fox Theatre, that is accurate.

The company said the movement seen during the Gunna performance is “common and expected... to support audience members actively dancing,” according to a statement received by the Detroit Free Press and WDIV.

“This capability is an integral part of the balcony’s structural engineering design,” Ilitch Sports + Entertainment said in the statement. “Regular inspections, most recently conducted in April, are completed to ensure the integrity and safety of the structure.”

Fox Theatre opened in 1928 and has a capacity of more than 5,000.
