When Baker Mayfield Trade Could Reportedly Happen
With Deshaun Watson coming in to become the next starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, Baker Mayfield’s status with the team is now fully up in the air.
Will the Browns cut him? Trade him? Or hold onto him incase Watson is suspended for the start of the 2022 season?
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport believes the Cleveland organization will ultimately trade their former No. 1 overall pick. He sets the timetable for a potential trade at a couple days before this year’s draft.
“I would say probably in the couple days before the draft is generally the window there,” Rapoport said on Friday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show.

If a trade does go down, Rapoport believes the Browns will have to eat at least some of Mayfield’s fully-guaranteed contract.
“Baker Mayfield would have been the QB for the Browns had they not traded for Deshaun Watson,” he added. “… Initially [the Browns] hoped for someone to take on the salary and [get] a second-rounder. It’s not going to be that now. The salary’s fully-guaranteed. They’re probably going to have to eat some of it.”
Mayfield is expected to make his first public comments since the Deshaun Watson trade sometime in the coming days.
