Bail set at $6 million for Wake County man charged with statutory rape of girl

The News & Observer

A Wake County man is in jail on $6 million bail after being charged with multiple sex crimes against a minor.

On June 11, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an alleged sexual assault on a female juvenile.

Deputies charged Herman Davis, 55, with three counts of statutory rape of a child, three counts of taking indecent liberties with children and one count of first-degree statutory sex offense, according to a news release Friday.

According to North Carolina law, a person is guilty of statutory rape of a child by an adult if the person is at least 18 years old and has vaginal intercourse with a child under the age of 13.

Davis is being held at the Wake County Detention Center under a $6 million secured bond, meaning he would have to put up money or property to be released from custody.

The investigation is continuing, and police have not provided any other information, such as how Davis and the girl may have known each other.
