Bagel shop opens on Main Street in this Burlington County town

MOORESTOWN – Mary and Patrick Moore have expanded their bagel business to Main Street here.

Moore Bagels, family-owned and operated, opened in Marlton in 2017.

The husband-and-wife team — a former police officer and a former teacher, respectively — learned the bagel business by making connections across New York and New Jersey, Mary said.

Now they have realized their expansion dreams.

“We had our hearts set on expanding since before COVID,” Mary said. “We found an awesome building on Main Street in Moorestown and converted it into a New Age bagel shop."

“We decided to invest in bagels to build a business for our family of four (they have a son and a daughter). Marlton has embraced our neighborhood bagel shop over the years. We have made many new friends and connections in town.”

The new location, which opened in November, is 65 East Main Street in Moorestown. A sister store is at 65 Route 70 East in Marlton.

The pair have partnered with Lakes Coffee, a small, family-owned coffee roaster and café in Medford Lakes.

Having quality coffee is important in a town that lost its Starbucks on Main Street three years ago.

“Lakes provides us with excellent coffee and we have named the coffee after Moorestown and the mascot, Quaker,” Mary added. “Many of our sandwiches are named after town locations or people close to us in our family.”

Sandwiches include the “Patty Mo”, which is named after Patrick and includes bacon, pork roll, sausage, egg and cheese.

The “Philly Philly,” named after the famous Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl play, is a cheesesteak topped with an egg and cheese and fried onions of course).

And the “Nitwit” has pork roll, egg and cheese, topped with a brown patty.

“We named this after the kids that have worked for us as a joke and it just stuck,” Mary explained.

“The kids that work for us are the backbone of the company and the secret to our success,' she explained. "Many of them being high school and college students who have been with us for years and years. They are like our children and the family atmosphere is a great experience for us all.”

Their most popular bagels are the everything and sesame which they seed on both sides, She described an “excellent” jalapeno cheddar and French toast bagel as well.

“We have 21 flavors of bagels and 12 flavors of cream cheese that we make in house from scratch fresh every day,” said Mary, who also offers cookies, crumb cake, muffins, tater tots and chips at their stores.

“We are hoping to continue to grow the business with our children and looking to expand in the near future with our originality and creativity with food.”

The hours for the Moorestown shop are Monday through Sunday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
