Bad Bunny and David Grutman’s Miami restaurant is finally opening. Here’s what to expect

In Miami, this is the weekend of Bad Bunny.

The award-winning Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton star performs at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday and Saturday as part of his 2022 World’s Hottest Tour — and on Friday opens a Japanese steakhouse with nightlife entrepreneur David Grutman.

Gekkō, which seats 185 and is located in Brickell, was designed by the New York-based Rockwell group. The restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor seating and includes an intimate lounge with the same name. Design features lean toward dark with velvet draperies and graphic wall coverings.

Founder of Groot Hospitality, the force behind Komodo, Strawberry Moon and most recently The Key Club in Coconut Grove, among other endeavors, Grutman said he wanted to combine steakhouse and lounge elements under one roof.

“Gekkō is the result of so many of my obsessions in food,” he said in a statement. “I knew I wanted to do something that combined these worlds, and once I started speaking with Bunny, I knew he’d be a great partner.”

Expect high-end cuts of wagyu beef but also sushi rolls and other highlights of Japanese cuisine, including Japanese milk bread and a “Lava and Ice” Kumamoto oyster. Other appetizers include lobster dumplings and a wedge salad with yuzu buttermilk ranch dressing.

For entrees, meat is the main attraction, with a Tomahawk steak, filet mignon from Kagawa, Japan, wagyu skirt steak and a bone-in ribeye. But there are also seafood choices like creamy and spicy lobster as well as sushi, sashami and raw plates like Hokkaido scallops and the 24K Otoro, fatty tuna topped with edible gold.

As for Bunny, whose full name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, he said he was happy with the partnership.

“Sitting down with friends to enjoy a good meal is one of the moments I value the most. I am thrilled that now I will have a hand in creating this experience for others,” he said in a statement.
