Back to school: Weekend MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five high school athletes

Back to work. These Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford-area high school athletes ended April school vacation week with strong performances over the weekend.

They piled up the points or sparkled in their debuts.

As everyone in the commonwealth returns to the student athlete grind, make sure to check out the MetroWest Fantastic Five (plus one) athletes from the last weekend of April school vacation:

ASHLEY CALLERY, Hopkinton softball

She drove in five runs on a 3-for-3 day, as the Hillers bested Milford 13-9 on Friday. Hopkinton's Zoe Adams was 5-for-5, while Caroline Ozuman had three this for the Hillers (4-2).

KIERAN FAGAN, Lincoln-Sudbury boys volleyball

He put down 12 kills with four aces and a block in a 3-0 win over O'Bryant on Friday. Sebastian D'Ambrosio (two aces) and Ryan Heberling (two aces) each put down six kills, while Tim Langille had eight kills and five blocks for the Warriors (4-1), which won 25-15, 25-22, 25-15. L-S' Timmy Kearney contributd two aces, two kills, and four blocks.

MEGAN FANELLI, Marlborough girls tennis

She went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, as the Panthers swept two pro-set matches against Fitchburg 3-2 and 4-1 on Friday. She won 8-2 and 8-3 for Marlborough (2-2).

SIMON FLETCHER, Lincoln-Sudbury baseball

The sophomore made his first varsity start against Catholic Memorial on Friday and earned his first win. He threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits with nine strikeouts in a 4-0 victory. Jake Haarde was 2-for-4 and scored twice with a stolen base for the Warriors (3-3). L-S' Logan Umbach had two RBIs, while Cooper Tarantino contributed an RBI.

JACKSON MASTROIANNI, Blackstone Valley Tech boys lacrosse

He played a part in eight of the Beavers' nine goals in a 9-6 win over St. Bernard's on Saturday. Jamie Nelson scored twice for BVT (6-1).

BELLA ROMAN, Algonquin girls lacrosse

She poured in nine goals, including the game-winner with 46 seconds left Saturday in a 15-14 victory over Hopkinton. Grace Chiota distributed four assists with two goals, while Abby Roberts and Lauren Staunton each had a goal and assist for Algonquin (3-2).

BLACKSTONE VALLEY TECH 9, Hopedale 2: Jack Marino had three hits and two RBIs on Saturday in a 9-2 win over Hopedale. Luke Charron also had three hits on a day the Beavers (5-1) delivered 13 hits. BVT's DJ Garabedian, Corey Magill (double) and Robby Poirier had two hits each. Hopedale's Smith was 2-for-4, while Brady Wadja added two RBIs.

DOVER-SHERBORN 2, Needham 1: Gavin Lynch threw a complete game for the Raiders (5-2), striking out 10 and allowing just four hits Friday.

NORTH MIDDLESEX 10, Hudson 2: JJ Senske had two hits, scored a run and stole a base for the Hawks (3-3) on Friday.

HOLLISTON 12, Bridgewater-Raynham 8: Brad Andreola and Brogan Roche (two runs) each collected a hit and two RBIs and stole two bases Saturday for the Panthers. Holliston's Teddy Peters scored three runs and stole three bases with two hits and an RBI.

HOLLISTON 12, Natick 3: Teddy Peters struck out eight in five shutout innings on the mound while doubling among his two hits with an RBI for the Panthers. Holliston's Brogan Roche and Jayden Hayes (double) each had two RBIs, while Brad Andreola scored three runs with a stolen base and a single. Natick's Jack Weierman and Cameron Gobeille each had an RBI, while Jack Byrne and Alex Jacques collected two singles each.

FRANKLIN 5, North Quincy 3:Rex Cinelli had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers on Friday. Franklin's Zach Winer (run), Joseph Goguen (RBI) and Roman Caccavelli (run, RBI) each had a hit. Jake Shaughnessy earned the win throwing four innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed six hits and two runs. Matthew Miller earned the save with three innings of one-hit, shutout relief with two strikeouts.

HOPEDALE 4, Uxbridge 3: Will Adamski was 2-for-3 with an RBI and dropped in a walk-off single for the Blue Raiders on Friday. Nathan Montville was 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. He also picked up the win throwing the final ⅔ of an inning. Hopedale's Brady Wajda (RIB) and Ben Mayo (double, run) each had a hit.

SHEPHERD HILL 5, Algonquin 3: Nick Klein doubled twice for the Titans (3-3).

FRONTIER REGIONAL 2, Nipmuc 0: Joshua Giancola allowed just run and four hits with eight strikeouts in six innings for the Warriors (3-2). He also doubled.

Softball

NASHOBA 10, Hudson 1: Laruen O'Malley had two hits for the Hawks (4-1) on Friday in the Sheryl Jones Tournament final. Liv Connolly drove in a run, while Audrey Lenox had a hit and a walk for Hudson.

HOPEDALE 11, Milford 9: Phoebe Carrol doubled twice among her three hits and drove in two runs to keep the Blue Raiders (5-0) unbeaten on Saturday. Hopedale's Kelsey Evans launched a homer. Milford trailed 11-2 after the top of the sixth but scored six in the bottom half to pull within striking distance.

Boys lacrosse

HOPKINTON 9, Algonquin 8: John Snada had a hat trick for the Hillers (5-1) on Saturday. Hopkinton's Wyatt Iantosca caused four turnovers. Ben Yosca collected a hat trick with an assist for the Titans (4-2). Algonquin's Declan Mulkerin added two goals an assist.

NATICK 11, Dover-Sherborn 8: Alex Peck collected five goals with an assist for the Redhawks (3-4) on Saturday. Natick's Evan Hyman saved 16 shots, and Parker Boyce connected on a hat trick.
