Joey Graziadei of The Bachelor has issued an apology for an odd moment of confusion that occurred as he was playing a Betches quiz game.

Video from the game that Betches shared on YouTube earlier this month showed Graziadei as he answered a series of prompts, starting with one that asked him to identify a photo of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. The Bachelor’s Season 28 star confidently declared, “I do know who this person is,” before suggesting the photo was of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“Is it Ruth? No?” Graziadei, 28, guessed. “Ginsburg? Something like that. Am I wrong?”

It seemed like Graziadei was mixing up the names of the two women, because he did appear to be familiar with Blanchard’s story.

“I know that she had something happen where she went to jail because of her mom,” he said.

When Betches revealed the answer, he reflected on the name he’d suggested and said, “I don’t know what I’m saying.”

Graziadei has since visited the White House, where he met with press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. In a video of their meeting that The Bachelor later shared on social media, Graziadei was again confronted with his mistake.

The video posted on Instagram shows Jean-Pierre pointing out a photo of Ginsburg, who died in 2020 at age 87 after serving for 27 years on the bench.

“You say that you’re really good with names,” Jean-Pierre teased Graziadei.

“I’m so sorry,” he said as Jean-Pierre laughed. “I knew that that wasn’t actually her in the photo,” he added, though the White House press secretary said she doubted that was true.

Graziadei went on to say that he realizes he “won’t live that one down” and recognizes “how much of a legend” Ginsburg is.

Blanchard, the 32-year-old woman who was in the photo that Betches showed Graziadei, did spend time in prison, as Graziadei had guessed. She pleaded guilty in 2016 to assisting in her then-boyfriend’s murder of her abusive mother and was released on parole late last year.
