When you hit the town you want to wear your best outfit, right? Well that's true for a calf named Monkey too. The baby cow has a real sense of style, as can be seen in a video where he was spotted looking all spiffied up for the state fair.

Straw hat? Check. Rubber boots, perfect for walking in the mud? Check. Monkey was ready to go in the video online.

Looking good, Monkey! The calf showed off his 'fit in a new video online.

We have to think the baby cow had a little help from his mama, Shaunna Morris. He looked so cute! The outfit was perfect for the state fair. And may we just say, Monkey was really pulling the ensemble off.

What Are Livestock Competitions?

The state fair is a great day out for the whole family, but many cows end up attending to participate in livestock competitions. So what are they exactly?

Livestock shows have been around for a long, long time.  Historically, they were ways for farmers to show off their animals, evaluate their animals, or trade animals for agricultural reasons. In the 19th century, livestock competitions and exhibitions became more organized thanks to westward expansion and growth in the livestock industry. These exhibits would also feature games, rides, as well as entertainment and educational exhibits.

The tradition of livestock competitions has been a boon for certain livestock breeds. They've allowed certain breeds to be featured and shine, ultimately allowing those breeds to be preserved.

Today, livestock competitions serve a similar purpose. They're even bigger than they were in the past. Livestock competitions happen at the local, regional, and national level. And livestock competitions now encompass many more animals than just cattle. Goats, pigs, and poultry are now part of the presentations too.

A typical livestock competition really is a competition. Livestock are typically judged on several different categories, like muscle structure and conformation. Then they're awarded prizes, trophies, or money when they win.

These competitions can also be spaces where farmers can meet each other and network. Oftentimes this is where livestock can be bought or sold. It's all to say that livestock competitions are way more than what they seem. We don't know if Monkey is going to a livestock competition at the state fair, but if he was, we do know that he'll be rolling up in style.
