Babies R Us is coming back to Iowa. Where will the new stores open?

The one-stop shop for all your baby's needs and wants is returning to Iowa.

That's right, Babies R Us is opening stores again after it went out of business alongside its parent company, Toys R Us. The retailer is coming back with 200 new locations, including two in Iowa, the company announced Wednesday. So where are the first few locations and when will they open?

Why did Toys R Us close?

In 2017 the company filed for bankruptcy, citing $5 billion in long-term debt. The company last reported a profit in 2013, according to Forbes. It initially planned to close about 180 of its toy stores and baby accessory stores across the country, including two in the Des Moines area. By the 2018 holiday season, the company had closed its remaining 800 stores, including four remaining Iowa stores.

Where will Babies R Us be in Iowa?

There will be two new Babies R Us located inside Kohl's stores in Iowa.

In the Des Moines area, one store is opening in the Kohl's at 1935 SE Delaware Ave. in Ankeny. A second store will open in Cedar Falls.

What products will be at the Kohls'-Babies R Us shop?

The joint shop will offer the latest baby gear, furniture, activities, accessories and more from Babies R Us. All of Kohl's baby and kids' clothing including brands like Little Co. by Lauren Conrad and Nike will remain in their normal spots within Kohl's.

When will the Kohl's-Babies R Us shop open?

Exact opening dates have not been determined yet but the stores are expected to open in 2024, according to Kohl's.
