Awards season continues at Crystal Lanes: Blencowe heads Ladies All-City Team

Hailey Blencowe registered the highest average for the ladies this season with a 215 mark at Crystal Lanes and with that, she earns the mythical title of team captain for the Ladies All-City Team. She is joined on the First Team by Deon Frost, Anita Gennosa, Cheryl Rice and Gwen Bain.

Hailey opened the season for Fran’s Landing in the Savona Storage Ladies League with a 703 series and just kept it rolling for the entire season. She later added a season high 720 series. Hailey recorded 20 600 series’ out of the 25 times she bowled. That 720 set also included a season high 268 game.

Three teammates from the Giardina Building & Remodeling Ladies League secured spots on the First Team. Deon Frost, Anita Gennosa and Gwen Bain from the Crystal Lanes team in that league were all named to the First Team.

Deon, who is an annual selection to this mythical team, finished the season with a 206 average in the Giardina League and then tacked on a 201 average for Lane 33 Pro Shop in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League. She posted season highs of a 723 series and 290 game in the Joey’s League and compiled 39 scores of 600 or better in the two leagues.

Anita was the only lady to register a 200 or better average in three different leagues. Her best effort was a 206 for Rosebud’s Pin Pals in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League, where she recorded a season best 732 series and 289 game. Anita finished the season in the Joey’s League with a 202 average for Lane 33 Pro Shop and then added a 201 mark in the Giardina League. For the season, Anita had a ladies best three 700s and totaled 48 scores over the 600 mark.

Cheryl Rice earned yet another berth on the All-City, First-Team by virtue of her 202 average for T & R Environmental in the Giardina League. Cheryl’s best night was a 700 series that included a 267 game. She also posted a 190 average in the Atlas Pizzeria Mixed League. She compiled 22 sixes for the season.

Rounding out the First Team was Gwen Bain and her 201 average as that third member of the Crystal Lanes team in the Giardina League. Gwen also recorded a 197 average in the Atlas League and hit her best score of the season, with a 712 series, in the Joey’s League. She registered 24 sixes for the season.

A pair of sisters headline the Ladies All-City, Second Team. Samantha Blanford and Kayla Blanford not only made a little history along the way, but they completed their first seasons in the Corning Association with All-City berths. They are joined on the Second Team with Heather Farr, Lori Calkins and Jean Blauvelt.

Samantha earned her berth with a 197 average for SKS Racing in the Jubilee Foods Mixed League. Not only did Samantha highlight her season with a 300 game the same night her sister Kayla did, she capped that night with a 691 series, one of 15 she threw this season.

It was a busy season for Heather Farr as she competed in four different leagues. In two of those leagues, she finished with identical 196 averages. She posted a 196 for Koperczak’s Dairy in the Jubilee League and copied that mark for Gerow’s Grocery in the Atlas League. She also carried a 192 average to pace the Gabe’s Grille Ladies and finished with a 188 mark in the Joey’s League where she posted a season best 706 series. In all, Heather rolled 34 scores over 600 during the season.

A couple of Premier Aviation teammates were flying high in the Giardina League as Lori Calkins and Jean Blauvelt both earned spots on the Second Team. Lori rode five 600s, including a season best 688, to a 192 average, while Jean also registered five 600s on her way to a 188 average. Her best effort of the season was a 707 series that featured a 279 game.

Rounding out the Second Team is Kayla Blanford. She finished the season for SKS Racing in the Jubilee League and she had a night to remember. Not only did Kayla make history with her sister Samantha and their 300 games on the same night, but she blasted the highest series of the season for the ladies when she finished that evening with a resounding 783 series.

Keep in mind, these teams have nothing to do with Crystal Lanes management, the Corning Bowling Association or any other organization that has anything to do with anything.

It’s just my way of recognizing the bowlers who recorded the highest averages in any given league while competing this season at Crystal Lanes. Many thanks to Anita and Greg for compiling some of the stats. What a great job you both do all season long.

And we do have one more league championship to put in the books. It was the Coaches Kids taking home the title in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. Waving the pennant banners are Rick Amidon, John Hand, Joe Marmor, Duane Grover and Chad Farr. Way to go.

Next week we will present the Men’s All-City Team and that will close the bowling columns for this season.
